Coming Attractions 11/07/12

In this feature I’ll highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most:

Avengers Academy #39
This is it. The final issue of Avengers Academy is upon us and it is a sad and bittersweet day indeed. How will it all end for our favourite students? You can be certain Christos Gage will deliver one hell of an emotional ending worthy of his run.

Deadpool #1
Deadpool used to be my number one book under Way but towards the end, the quality of the book kept getting lower and lower. I don’t know if he ran out of gas or what happened but Marvel NOW has brought us a new #1 and a new creative team. I’m looking forward to what they will do with the Merc With A Mouth.

Uncanny X-Force #33
The conclusion is racing upon us and after last issue’s treachery, the team is in shambles. Where do we go from here? How do they hope to win? I’m excited to find out.

Worlds’ Finest #6
Damian Wayne comes to Worlds’ Finest. This should be an awesome issue as any book involving Damian ups the quality. This could possibly be the best issue of this young series so far. I’m holding out hope…

X-Factor #246
“Behind the scenes look of how, in a typical day and a typical X-Factor case, Pip the Troll holds the entire team together without their knowledge” If that solicitation alone didn’t tell you this is going to be a fun issue, I don’t know what will. That or you don’t know who Pip is and I recommend you read some X-Factor back-issues to get yourself acquainted.

Other Comics I’ll Be Purchasing
Action Comics #14
Animal Man #14
Avengers #33
Detective Comics #14
Earth 2 #6
Green Arrow #14
Green Lantern #14
Iron Man #1
Legends of the Dark Knight #2
New Avengers #32
Smallville Season 11 #7

Final tally stands at DC Comics (9 Issues), Marvel (7 Issues), and Independent (0 Issues). So that’s my pull list for the week. What’s yours? What comics are you most looking forward to? Comment below!

  1. I had read that Damian had been discarded from the New 52 universe in the last issue of Batman Inc. It looks like my faulty knowledge of english language made me misunderstand the articles I read. Or maybe he simply got discarded from the Batman universe, but he will peep out from time to time in some other series, like World’s Finest. What can you tell me about him?

    • Damian is far from discarded. In Batman Inc #1 he was shot and killed at the end of the issue. In reality this was a ruse: Bruce faked Damian’s death and secluded him in the Batcave in order to protect him (his mother has put a price on Damian’s head and he is being targeted by the most dangerous and skilled assassins) while Batman goes undercover to confront Talia and her minions.

He appears regularly in the Batman and Robin series (majority of the issues take place before Batman Inc #1 chronologically I think until recently) and he has just donned the guise of Redbird (Batman Inc #3) so he can leave the Batcave, though Bruce is unaware he is doing this until Batman Inc #4. At the end of Batman Inc. #4, Batman tells Damian to give up being Robin and go back to his mother or else Gotham will burn.

It can be confusing at times how Batman Inc fits in with the rest of the DCnU and the Batman timeline. He is also currently involved in the “Death of the Family” crossover currently running in Batman and the other titles. Again in his Robin costume so I don’t know how this lines up with Batman Inc. as well. We shall see, but the ultimatum presented in Batman Inc #4 won’t slow down his appearances in the other books.

Hope that answers your question. Anything else, let me know.

  2. Talia put a price on Damian’s head? Well, she definitely isn’t the mother of the year!
“Batman tells Damian to give up being Robin and go back to his mother or else Gotham will burn”: Well, maybe Damian didn’t get discarded, but that sounds like a huge downsizing to me. I hope I will be proved wrong. As I hope Talia and her father won’t appear in Batman stories for a long time: I’ve always found them terribly boring. The only story starring Talia I enjoyed was a single issue of Dark Claw, written and drawn by Ty Templeton – and it wasn’t even the real Talia, but the Amalgam version of the character. That’s why I love conversations about comics: 9 times out of 10, I end up remembering a good comic book I almost forgot about, and then I search for it and read it again with so much pleasure. That’s what I’m going to do with that Dark Claw issue. Thank you for your reply, and for making me remember it! : )

    • “Well, maybe Damian didn’t get discarded, but that sounds like a huge downsizing to me. I hope I will be proved wrong.”

If Damian even agrees to it he’ll only be with his mom for 8 issues tops. Damian is too good of a character for DC to sweep off the board like that. It’s almost what happens in Batman Inc stays in Batman Inc. so he would still remain in the other various titles he appears in including Batman and Robin.

There’s even rumours swirling of a new wave book called Robins which would feature Damian, Tim, Jason, and Dick though I don’t know what capacity for each. Also it is supposed to be written by Jeff Lemire. I’m sold.
