Coming Attractions 02/06/13

In this feature I’ll highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most:

Animal Man #17/Swamp Thing #17
Animal Man #17Swamp Thing #17
Creative Team
Jeff Lemire and Steve Pugh (Animal Man), Scott Snyder and Andy Belanger (Swamp Thing)
Solicitation
“The epic climax of ‘ROTWORLD’ starts here and continues into this month’s SWAMP THING #17! All hope seems lost! Can Buddy find a way to stop the Rot before it takes over the world? Before that can even happen, Buddy must confront the horrible truth about the fate of his family.” (Animal Man), “The epic finale of ‘ROTWORLD’ continues from this month’s ANIMAL MAN #17! What will it cost our heroes to stop this apocalypse from happening? The answer will blow your freaking mind.” (Swamp Thing)
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
These two series are so closely linked this week that even their covers form one big one! This is it, the grand finale of the storyline that kicked off with the birth of the New 52 and my main question is how can the good guys possibly win? We know both of the characters will somehow get back to the present but how that actually happens is a very intriguing question indeed. I can’t wait for the finale and can’t wait for the new direction that will follow on Animal Man. In Lemire and Snyder we trust.

Green Arrow #17
Green Arrow #17
Creative Team
Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino
Solicitation
“Welcome the new team of writer JEFF LEMIRE and artist ANDREA SORRENTINO! As Ollie struggles to come to terms with the loss of his fortune, his company and his heritage, he discovers a shocking truth about his father that ties to his time stranded on an island before he became Green Arrow. Plus: Green Arrow battles the deadly archer known as Komodo!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Green Arrow? What’s that book doing here? Oh, right…new creative team, new direction, new hope. After 16 issues of sub-par to downright awful stories, this series looks to finally kick it into high gear. Finally, a great issue (hopefully) of Green Arrow is going to be in my hands and the prospect of that has me absolutely elated. I love the character, I love his show, and now I’ll get a series that is worthy of all that love. Will it be good, will it be great, or will it be awesome? We’ll all find out this coming Wednesday!

Iron Man #6
Iron Man #6
Creative Team
Kieron Gillen and Greg Land
Solicitation

“Tony Stark. In Space. In a bar. With ladies. What could go wrong? Is Tony guilty of a crime he’s not even aware of? A shocking start to an all-new, all-different direction for IRON MAN.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
With the advent of the sixth issue, Gillen is already taking Tony Stark into an “all-new, all-different direction”. It should make for an interesting read and I simply love that the cover hints the crime he’s committed is connected to his interference with the Phoenix Force. Though I will miss Tony’s supporting cast, his involvement in space affairs could create some out-of-this-world memorable moments.

New Avengers #3
New Avengers #3
Creative Team
Jonathan Hickman and Steve Epting
Solicitation
“The Illuminati experience their first incursion since reforming. Can the loose brotherhood of end times trust each other enough to use the Infinity Gems in unison? And a new member joins the Illuminati!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
I’ve made it known that this is my favourite of Hickman’s Avengers titles. The story is captivating, the characters involved are great, and it only looks to get better. Last issue made it to my Top 3 comics of that week. Will this one repeat the feat? With Hickman, that is always a strong possibility.

Superior Spider-Man #3
Superior Spider-Man #3
Creative Team

Dan Slott and Ryan Stegman
Solicitation
“Everything You Know Is Wrong. Is this all-new Spider-Man in cahoots with… J. Jonah Jameson?! Has Carlie Cooper figured out the Superior Spider-Man’s secret identity? All this and the return of the villainous Vulture!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
It was just last week that Issue #2 came out so having the next one immediately come after it the following week was a surprise, albeit a pleasant one. The tease in the solicitation has my interest piqued and the preview going around the internet looks great as the Superior Spider-Man takes a friendly jab at his DC rival Batman. Hell, even the cover is an homage to Batman really cementing Marvel’s attempt to make Spider-Man a darker character. I’ve enjoyed the new direction so far and I expect this issue will be more of the same.
