On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 03/06/13

Radar

In this feature I’ll highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

All-New X-Men #8
All New X-Men #8
Creative Team
Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez
Solicitation
“Guest-starring the Avengers! How will the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes react to the time-swept X-Men?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
This issue is primed to be a memorable one. The interaction between the two teams should be a classic ripe with fantastic dialogue, something Bendis is quite proficient with. I’m especially interested to see what Captain America’s reaction will be: will he demand they be sent back immediately or will he “allow” them to stay? This is shaping up to be a very intriguing encounter indeed.

Animal Man #18
Animal Man #18
Creative Team
Jeff Lemire and Steve Pugh
Solicitation
“ROTWORLD epilogue! The horrible tragedy of ROTWORLD weighs heavily on the Baker family. Nothing will be the same for Animal Man after this issue!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
“Rotworld” has finally reached its conclusion with this issue. The ominous “nothing will be the same for Animal Man after this issue” part really has me scratching my head wondering what that could mean and that fact is only reinforced by Animal Man screaming out on the cover. Will someone in Buddy’s family not survive? Tragedy looks to strike this series and I’m very interested to see where Lemire takes this book in what is essentially its’ second new arc. The launching point is here.

Green Arrow #18
Green Arrow #18
Creative Team
Jeff Lemire amd Andrea Sorrentino
Solicitation

“Oliver Queen has lost everything: His company, his money, his friends and most of his arrows. It’s all because of one man: Komodo, who has come to tear Ollie’s life to shreds! From the ashes, Ollie must uncover the secrets of his father’s past — secrets of the island and Ollie’s own uncanny ability with the bow.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Last issue, the new creative team hit a home run but the quality of a series can not be based off of a single issue no matter how great it was. This is the follow-up. This is where we learn if this series has the chops to go far and help us erase the bad taste that Issues #1-#16 left in our mouths. I’m fairly confident that this will be another home run and I couldn’t be happier about that.

Smallville Season 11 #11
Smallville Season 11 #11
Creative Team
Bryan Q. Miller and Pere Perez
Solicitation
“In order to face Bart’s demons, Superman and Impulse confront a reluctant ally: the JSA’s Jay Garrick! Lois’s investigation into Lex takes a surprising turn. Chloe’s journey through her doppelgänger’s memories turns dangerous.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
A lot of plot points go on in each issue of Smallville, but Bryan Q. Miller expertly juggles them all. The current arc with Superman/Impulse has, forgive the pun, been picking up speed with the introduction of the Black Flash and now we look towards the Smallville debut of Jay Garrick. The only thing that would make this arc cooler would be an appearance by Barry Allen and/or Wally West! The secondary plots of Lois’ investigation and Chloe delving into her memories are interesting as well especially Chloe’s as it looks to be shaping up for something that could potentially be quite epic in the future.

Venom #32
Venom #32
Creative Team

Cullen Bunn and Declan Shalvey
Solicitation
“TOXIN’S IN PHILLY. THE DEVIL’S IN JERSEY. VENOM’S GOING TO WAR.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Last issue met with a sharp uptake in quality. Venom going to Philadelphia was the kickstart this series needed and hopefully this momentum continues with this next installment. Also the slow-build towards the Venom/Toxin confrontation has my interest piqued, something I haven’t been able to say for a long time in regards to this series.

  1. Yes, I’m really looking forward to the Avengers showing up in All New X-Men as well. Going to be great fun to see how they react to seeing the original X-Men as well!
