Welcome to the eighth edition of the Comic Connection! The main point of its existence is to share and discuss, to Connect through Comics. Its centrepiece is the Weekly Question, a question I will pose dealing with anything Comic related. Then I turn it over to you and to Twitter to offer any feedback/your opinion on the topic with your answers being featured on next week’s posting. I’ll also share some cool comic-related fan art along with links to my favourite blogs and people to follow on Twitter. With that said, let’s revisit last week’s question:
Last week I asked “What character do you think will become Batman’s new Robin?”. To see my answer on the topic visit HERE. As for what the rest of you had to say…
wwayne: I don’t think that Bruce is going to choose Ellie as the next Robin: Damian died to save her, so I don’t think Bruce wants her to be around him, constantly remembering him the reason why Damian died and therefore twisting the knife in the wound only by making her presence felt. Honestly, I would love to see Carrie as the new Robin, but Tomasi denied this option from the start, so Harper Row seems to be the most probable choice. Everybody is sure that Bruce will choose a new Robin soon. In this case I can’t make a prediction, but I’m very surprised that nobody considered the option that maybe Bruce doesn’t want a new Robin. After Jason’s death, Bruce didn’t want to work with a sidekick anymore, and Tim had to fight very hard to persuade him: if Jason’s death was enough to make him say “No Robins anymore”, the death of his son should make him say the same thing with even more conviction, and this time without changing his mind. I think that everybody is so sure that a new Robin will be chosen because a lot of people can not conceive Batman without his sidekick.
@TheCodeCrimson: I’m not normally a fan of resurrecting dead characters, but I sure as hell hope they do it with Damian. Real sad to see him go. I loved the shifting dynamics between him and his father. Damian was always such a perfect little jerk.
@RustedMecha: Carrie and Ellie are both long shots, Harper is halfway there. There is another possibility: but she’s not even in Gotham 😉 Definitely not Stephanie Brown but someone who has established New 52 skills to be a sidekick. Longshot but who knows 🙂
@JoshCrewsReally: I think it will be a while. He lost a son (and another Robin). Mourning time.
@GL875: DC seem to be rebuilding a lot of the original continuity as new ideas don’t quite stick, Firestorm being a prime example. / So I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they moved Tim Drake back into the role as Bruce’s partner, at least for a year or two.
@paul_bowler: Well a lot of people think it will be Harper Row, but I think Tim Drake will return to work with Batman again.
Thanks to all that shared! Now we move onto this week’s question:
“What characters would you like to see added as DLC for the video game Injustice: Gods Amongst Us?”
Before I give my answers, let’s rundown the characters that are already in the game: Aquaman, Ares, Bane, Batman, Black Adam, Catwoman, Cyborg, Deathstroke, Doomsday, The Flash, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Harley Quinn, Hawkgirl, Joker, Killer Frost, Lex Luthor, Lobo, Nightwing, Raven, Shazam, Sinestro, Solomon Grundy, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Now onto my choices. I’m going to list 2 male heroes, 2 female heroes, 2 male villains, and 2 female villains:
What can’t he do? Telepathy, shape-shifting, projecting energy, x-ray vision, phasing, invisibility, flight, and super-strength produces a move set that gives Superman a run for his money. This hero is the complete and total package and is my number one priority character to be included over any of the other ones listed below. Hell, he should never had even been left to DLC, he should have been in the game to begin with!
Her various magic-based attacks would provide some visually stunning spectacles with the possibility that one of her spells could even summon the assistance from another magic/supernatural character such as Constantine or Deadman. Her limits are unfathomable though she would never use dark magic. She is also one of the select few notable women characters that were left off the roster that would still provide a unique play style.
Clayface & Poison Ivy
I know what you’re thinking: more Batman characters? Hear me out. Poison Ivy’s repertoire would include pheromone mind-control/toxic powers and the ability to control plant life like forming whips made of vines, having various dangerous plants/foliage spring up to attack, and using said plant life to defend herself as well. Clayface, on the other hand, would be a strong, hulking brute that could shape-change various parts of his body into maces or hammers, slide behind an oncoming attacker, and even randomly shape-change into one of the other established characters in the game and use one of his/her powers.
I’ve made it no secret that I love the character of Booster Gold so of course I’d love to have him included. Not only can he fly and has super-strength but he can also project force blasts, create a defensive force field around him, and can even time travel. Add all of those to the ability to summon his robot companion Skeets and you have an amazing character that would provide something different.
She has the ability to tap into the morphogenetic field which is a fancy way of saying she can harness the abilities of the animal kingdom much like Animal Man. Her power set is limitless be it the quickness of a cheetah, the strength of an elephant, the flight of a hawk, or the agility of a monkey just to name a few. The various animals employed would give her access to both defensive and offensive weapons and would also provide an interesting visual que each time she uses one of these powers.
One of Superman’s most notable foes, Brainiac would make a rather formidable addition to the roster. He would employ super-strength, the ability to use his ship to temporarily shrink down his opponent, create doubles of himself, slow down his opponent’s speed temporarily, and utilize various forms of technology to his advantage. A villain that was one time considered to be the main one for the upcoming Man of Steel at least deserves a spot in the game.
Another magic based character, this time one that would utilize the darker side of magic unlike Zatanna. She has the ability to transform matter, alter minds, create illusions, project magic blasts, teleportation, and the ability to revive the dead. She would be a nice counterpoint to Zatanna while also filling the roster as an antagonist for Wonder Woman as well.
So that’s my answer to the question. I’d love to hear from everyone else what yours would be. Comment below if you have anything you’d like to share.
