On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 05/01/13

Radar

In this feature I’ll highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Animal Man #20
Animal Man #20

Jeff Lemire and Steve Pugh
Solicitation
“The battle against the Rot has left Buddy’s family in ruins, and now they must withstand another force trying to subvert him: his own celebrity!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Saying the past two issues have not been kind to Buddy Baker is an understatement. Can things possibly get any worse? I’m excited for this book’s next arc and intrigued on where we are going to go from here.

Green Arrow #20
Green Arrow #20
Creative Team
Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino
Solicitation
“Komodo and The Outsiders have destroyed Green Arrow’s life, but how far will Ollie fall before he’s forced to take desperate measures?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The first of two books this week starring a hero who loves his bow and arrows is primed to further deepen the mystery that has developed these past few issues. What is the secret behind Oliver’s father’s past life? Also, what is this about “the Outsiders”? Is it a variation of the classic lineup or something else entirely? My anticipation levels are certainly increasing.

Hawkeye #10
Hawkeye #10
Creative Team
Matt Fraction and David Aja
Solicitation

“The most acclaimed new book of the year continues! Who pulled the trigger? Where have you seen him before? Have you seen him before? Maybe. But not like this. It’s murder, mayhem, and greasepaint make-up for the money, kids — and that means playtime is over, Monsieur Hulot. Caw caw.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
That last page of the previous issue was an absolute shocker. How could they do that? Fraction made us care and then ripped our hearts out in a flash. Revenge is on the menu but can Clint raise himself to the challenge ahead? Fraction and Aja aim to hit another bullseye in terms of quality, enjoyment, and simply pure awesomeness.

Superior Spider-Man #9
Superior Spider-Man #9
Creative Team
Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos
Solicitation
“IT ENDS HERE! ‘SUPERIOR NO MORE!’ The hottest comic in comics comes to a turning point that will get you angrier than you were after Spidey #700! The time has come to see who will live, who will die, and who will emerge as the one, true Superior Spider-Man!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
“Make us angrier than after Spidey #700?” What could possibly evoke such a reaction? Are they really going to kill Parker off again? Nah…they wouldn’t dare….would they? Whatever it may be, the internet is bound to explode in a full-blown wave of “nerd rage.” Wednesday will definitely be an interesting one for sure!

X-Factor #255
X-Factor #255
Creative Team

Peter David and Leonard Kirk
Solicitation
“‘HELL ON EARTH WAR’ comes to its senses-shattering conclusion! One Hell Lord stands victorious as the Earth is consumed in fire and brimstone. The few remaining members of X-Factor make one last ditch effort to save the world from its grim future. Not all will survive the final battle. And the last person you would expect winds up sitting on the throne of Hell. . .”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
I’ve made it known that I haven’t been a fan of this current arc. I feel this series works better when it’s more grounded in its storytelling as I don’t feel the more supernatural elements work. This final chapter looks to end this arc but this ending looks to be the most exiting one yet in regards to “Hell On Earth.” Who will claim the throne? Who will live? Who will die? So many questions that are just begging to be answered.

This one promises to be a huge turning point for the series. What that means for the book going forward has my attention seized in a stranglehold.

  1. The cover for Green Arrow # 20 is FANTASTIC. The more Sorrentino goes on working on Oliver, the more he’s making me a fan of him.
Also, DC site reveals that Katana’s release had been postponed, so probably this is the reason why I didn’t receive it 2 weeks ago. Let’s hope so.
And, talking about DC site, it made me discover a trade I’m definitely going to order: http://www.dccomics.com/graphic-novels/nightwing-old-friends-new-enemies. Nightwing + Roy Harper + a mystery to be unravelled + Marv Wolfman + Erik Larsen… I can’t wait to get my hands on it! : )

    • “The more Sorrentino goes on working on Oliver, the more he’s making me a fan of him.”
I’m glad to hear he’s slowly winning you over. 🙂

“In these classic tales from SECRET ORIGINS #13 and ACTION COMICS WEEKLY #613-618 and 627-634, Nightwing teams up with his old friend Speedy as they hunt the villain Cheshire and Roy’s daughter, but Speedy has a secret Nightwing doesn’t suspect.”
Very interesting indeed. I wonder what this secret could be? The creative team looks stellar and I’m all for a good Nightwing/Harper team-up. You’ll have to tell me how it is once you get it.
