On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 05/08/13

Radar

In this feature I’ll highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Avengers Arena #9
Avengers Arena #9
Creative Team
Dennis Hopeless and Kev Walker
Solicitation
“SECRETS EXPLODE & ALLIANCES SHATTER IN ‘GAME ON’ PART 2 OF 5! Apex-the mean girl you love to hate-makes her move!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
I’m still trying to get over the twist with Apex last issue so it’s a welcome sight to see that we’re going to immediately address the confusion. I, like numerous others, didn’t truly understand what had just happened but after doing some research on the net this concept has me intrigued to see how it will all play out.

Batman #20
Batman #20
Creative Team
Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo
Solicitation
“A strange visitor comes to Gotham City when tragedy delivers the team-up you’ve been asking for since the start of The New 52!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
“The team-up we’ve been asking for since the start of The New 52?” What could that be or more precisely who could it be? Part one of this two issue storyarc didn’t have me bouncing off the walls but this follow-up chapter looks to try to regain that lost momentum. This is the final issue before the “Batman: Year Zero” arc begins so you know Snyder is going to go out with a bang in the present before we revisit the past.

Batman and Red Hood #20
Batman And Red Hood #20
Creative Team
Peter J. Tomasi, Patrick Gleason and Mick Gray
Solicitation

“The massive fallout from the recent events in BATMAN, INCORPORATED take Batman to the very limits of his sanity. . . will The Red Hood pull him back-or push him over the edge?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Tomasi just keeps delivering on this series despite losing one half of his main cast. His emotional exploration of the mental anguish that Batman is experiencing is riveting stuff and teaming-up with Red Hood this month should provide for some interesting results.

Green Lantern Corps #20
Green Lantern Corps #20
Creative Team
Peter J. Tomasi and Fernando Pasarin
Solicitation
“‘WRATH OF THE FIRST LANTERN’ epilogue! In the aftermath of their battle against the First Lantern and the Guardians, it’s up to Guy Gardner, John Stewart and the other survivors to try to put the Corps back together, or decide if there should even BE a Corps anymore. Join Peter Tomasi and Fernando Pasarin for the epic conclusion of their run!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
And another book written by Tomasi, this one ending his time on Green Lantern Corps. His characterization of Guy Gardner was simply great and went a long way in making him my #3 favourite Earth-based Green Lantern behind only Jordan and Rayner. It will be a sad farewell indeed that also will look to the future of this franchise going forward.

Smallville Season 11 #13

Creative Team

Bryan Q. Miller and Daniel HDR
Solicitation
“An all-new episode begins with ‘Argo’ part 1 of 3! Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes try to stop war between Earth and a shocking enemy! Plus, a glitch in Booster Gold’s Legion flight ring propels the ‘Gold Standard,’ his trusty robot Skeets and The Man of Steel into the 31st century.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Time-travel? Legion of Super-Heroes? That’s all well and good but…it’s Booster Gold…and Skeets! I’m a huge Booster Gold fan and seeing him grace the Smallville universe once again is a big plus in my books. Superman traveling to the 31st century with him is only the cherry on top.

Deadpool vs. Carnage # 1 – 2 (somewhen in April)

15 of these comics are published by Marvel, 12 of them are indies and 10 of them are published by DC. This means that, after almost 3 years during which most of my pull list constantly consisted of DC releases, Marvel took the crown once again.
Now DC doesn’t even get the silver medal, due to the awesomeness of some indie comics like Witchblade and X.
“What comics are you most looking forward to?” I can’t wait to start reading Edmonson’s run on the Punisher.
What do you think about my pull list?

    • “This means that, after almost 3 years during which most of my pull list constantly consisted of DC releases, Marvel took the crown once again.”
All-New Marvel NOW is paying off for them in regards to you. They are coming out with a whole boat load of interesting titles in the coming months. Too bad the majority of their books are all $3.99 now. I’d get more Marvel if not for that reason…

“I can’t wait to start reading Edmonson’s run on the Punisher.”
      Shocker! 🙂

“What do you think about my pull list?”
There is a lot of overlap with our lists save for the Independent titles. I’m a little surprised with your inclusion of All-New Ultimates. What made you decide to try an Ultimate title out?

      Thanks for sharing!

      • “What made you decide to try an Ultimate title out?” All-New Ultimates seems to be focused on a team of young superheroes. It’s the same concept of some series I’m deeply nostalgic of, like Generation X and Avengers Academy, so I decided to give it a shot.
“Thanks for sharing!” Thank you as well for your reply! : )

        • “It’s the same concept of some series I’m deeply nostalgic of, like Generation X and Avengers Academy, so I decided to give it a shot.”
Hopefully it can fill that void that Avengers Academy left in your pull-list. I’ll pick this series up as a hardcover collection like I do with the rest of the Ultimate universe titles. I have some catching up though as I have all the Ultimate HCs but very little of the Ultimate Comic HCs…
