E3 2013 has come and gone with some pretty exciting announcements (Kingdom Hearts 3, PS4 details) and some pretty awesome trailers. This being a Comic Book Blog, I won’t go into too much detail about the non-comic book related games but my personal highlights had to be Metal Gear Solid V, Watch Dogs, and Final Fantasy XV. In other news, PS4 delivered quite a beat down (in my opinion) on Xbox One with their pricing strategy ($100 cheaper), their used game fees (there are none), and their lineup of games. But how did the comic-related games do? Well, here are some links to the various trailers (care of GameTrailers) plus my thoughts.
Batman: Arkham Origins
The debut trailer at the end of May was mind-blowing (CLICK HERE). At E3 we were treated with actual gameplay (CLICK HERE) and our first listen to our new Batman. It looks like it’s going to live up to the excellence of the previous two entries despite being made by an entirely new studio. I’m a sucker for anything Batman-related so this is a must buy for me.
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
I’m not afraid to admit it: I get a kick out of these LEGO games, especially the superhero related ones. After two Batman/DC entires Marvel is finally getting its chance in the spotlight and if this trailer (CLICK HERE) was any indication we won’t be disappointed. A healthy dose of humor combined with the vast pantheon of Marvel characters is a surefire winner.
The Walking Dead: 400 Days
The first Season of The Walking Dead video game was beyond exceptional. It was a moving emotional rollercoaster mixed with drama, action, and zombies. We thought that was it until Season 2 but during the past week or so we were littered with teases and all those teases amounted to a new DLC chapter to bridge the two seasons together. While the E3 trailer was eerily familiar (CLICK HERE) I did notice that the graphics had an uptick in quality. That was much needed since before this one it looked like a PS2 game at best. While still not mind-blowing in the graphics department, if the story can keep my interest then this could be an underdog pick. I’m taking a wait and see approach with this one…
Special mentions also go out to Deadpool and Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure. Both didn’t deliver any trailers but Scribblenauts in particular featured…a Stephanie Brown cameo! GASP! That’s about it for comic-based games this year. Of the six I’ve mentioned I have to say I’m most looking forward to…Batman: Arkham Origins. Shocker, am I right? 🙂 What’s everyone else looking forward to? Did E3 live up to your expectations? You know what to do!
