On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 06/26/13

Radar

In this feature I’ll highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Atomic Robo: The Savage Sword of Dr. Dinosaur #1
Atomic Robo Savage Sword Of Dr Dinosaur #1 (of 5)
Creative Team
Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener
Solicitation
“Atomic Robo investigates cryptid sightings near the old Nazi space program, ‘Science City,’ buried deep in the Venezuelan wilderness. Meanwhile, a mysterious package is delivered to Tesladyne – from Hashima Island Quarantine Zone. Is it from Alan? Majestic 12? Or something else entirely? If only the title could shed some light on this mystery!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
NEW SERIES ALERT! I’m not one to hide my immense affinity for all things Atomic Robo even supporting the Kickstarter for their animated short film. Every issue that comes out is always excellent but to me Atomic Robo is at his best when he squares off against Dr. Dinosaur. Whenever the villain appears every FCBD you know you’re going to have one hell of a good time and hilarity will ensue. So this series looks to capture that magical event and times it by five. That is simply the best news I could possibly hear!

Batman/Superman #1
Batman Superman #1
Creative Team
Greg Pak and Jae Lee
Solicitation
“A new epic begins with the debut of this new, ongoing series! Don’t miss the first fateful meeting of Batman and Superman in The New 52!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
NEW SERIES ALERT! It’s Batman. It’s Superman. It’s the spiritual successor to World’s Finest and Superman/Batman. Oh and did someone mention that they’re going to travel to Earth 2? Yeah, I can’t pass this up. Hopefully they can keep me sticking around though…

Daredevil #27
Daredevil #27
Creative Team
Mark Waid and Chris Samnee
Solicitation

“RED. DEAD. REDEMPTION.  Two years of the most critically acclaimed series in comics. . . and it’s all been leading to this moment.  ‘Close your eyes, Matt Muirdock. Take a deep breath. And feel everything you know slowly close in on you.'”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
After last issue’s epicness, after last issue’s visual masterpiece, after last issue’s absolute stellar storytelling I can hardly wait for the follow-up. The mastermind has been revealed but that is merely the start of Matt’s problems. How can he possibly defeat the unbeatable Ikari? I can’t hardly wait to find out the answer to that question and more.

The Flash #21
Flash #21
Creative Team
Brian Buccellato and Francis Manapul
Solicitation
“While on his path to finding the Speed Force Killer, Barry must contend with The Teen Titans! Plus, The Flash meets Kid Flash for the first time!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
This is the meeting I’ve been most anticipating ever since the New 52 messed with everyone’s histories: Barry Allen meet Bart Allen. How will the two interact with one another? Not too well by the looks of the cover and the fact that Barry believes Bart is connected to the recent murders going on. Flash Fact: I expect this issue to be awesome!

Hawkeye #11
Hawkeye #11
Creative Team

Matt Fraction and Francesco Francavilla
Solicitation
“THE breakout character of 2012. . . becomes the breakout character of 2013. . . as PIZZA DOG gets his own issue. Literally. . . the entire issue. . . it’s all from the dog’s point-of-view. Pizza Dog gets hired to solve a crime — the grizzly murder that shocked Team Hawkguy — and the only thing more shocking than THAT. . . is what happens the end of THIS. Seriously. This is not a joke! Even the coloring. Dog issue. We’re all gettin’ fired. PLEASE READ. . . ‘Pizza is my Business’ . . .before it’s too late for us.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
An entire issue from the perspective of a dog trying to solve a murder. Need I really say more for a series that is, in my opinion, the best title coming from Marvel?

Justice League #21
Justice League #21
Creative Team

Geoff Johns and Gary Frank
Solicitation
“This is it! Shazam’s origin story concludes in a extrasized extravaganza! As Black Adam threatens to gain control of all magic, Billy Batson learns that in order to stop him, he’ll need help from the unlikeliest of people. But what greater role awaits Shazam in the larger DC universe? And what does the Justice League have to do with it?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Ever since the Shazam back-ups started in Justice League they have routinely equaled if not regularly surpassed the main feature. Johns and Frank are hitting on all cylinders and this issue sees the back-up take over the entire comic to give us the proper grand finale that it so richly deserves. One can only hope that this is just a prelude for an ongoing Shazam series announcement in the future though.

  1. Marvel’s got too damned many comics coming out this week. ANXM, X-Men, YA, UXF, UXM AND JiM. Also Hawkeye, FF, Guardians of the Galaxy, Secret Avengers, AUAI and Daredevil. The number of comics to look forward to this week is simply obscene.

    • Actually, since I wasn’t able to buy the last issue of UXF the week it came out – my shop didn’t get it in – I wanted to pick it up this week. I’m going to be spending $30 on comics, which is $10 more than I currently have in my bank account. Ugh. I’ll need to borrow some money from a friend, I think.

      • This is an absolutely huge week for me as well. So many first-class titles all coming out in one week too: Hawkeye, FF, Atomic Robo, Daredevil, etc, etc. My wallet is going to be feeling it as well! 🙂
