The Edge: Week 30 – Something New “Off The Shelf”

theEdge

The San Diego Comic-Con is just two days away and the cavalcade of upcoming news is almost here. One last reminder that starting Wednesday through Sunday there will be a new edition of #Trending everyday. Wednesday will cover 07/11-07/17 while the other entries will cover one day each of all the news and notes from the Con. I also talked last week about the return of the Time Capsule. Expect that to happen near the end of this one. Last week I also mentioned about a new feature called Tales From The Back Issues which I’ll speak of more in the next edition of The Edge. This week, I want to talk about another new feature called Off The Shelf. Everybody has their weekly pull-list. Month in and month out we buy the comics we know and love, the ones we look forward to every time but there are various series that travel under our radar, ones that we just don’t give a chance and get passed by. Five Weapons was almost one of those series for me but I took a chance one week and found a title that I absolutely loved. I did it again to a lesser extent with Deadpool Kills Deadpool and this week it happened yet again. My new goal is each week to try out a new comic series whether it be sitting on the shelf at my local comic shop (they keep a month’s worth on display at a time) or in the back issue bin. Every week I’ll review my latest acquisition and end it with my decision: Added to my pull-list, Forget about it, or Undecided. This week I’ll be kicking it off with Quantum & Woody. I’ll end this edition of The Edge with this: I hope that everyone enjoys the Con while the rest of us await in anticipation of hearing what huge news is going to unfold from our homes. Otherwise, until next time…Happy Reading!

    • My first experience with the character was indeed in Exiles. Then I grew more familiar with his world through the Spider-Man video games until his recent appearance in the pages of Superior Spider-Man. A new series written by Peter David? How can I pass this up?

      • I agree with you that Spider Man 2099 + Peter David is a great combo. Especially if you consider that David is already familiar with the character, because he was the writer of Miguel O’Hara’s solo series in the 90s. A perfect example of “what is old is new again.” : )
