On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 07/24/13

Radar

In this feature I’ll highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Batman/Superman #2
Batman Superman #2
Creative Team
Greg Pak and Jae Lee
Solicitation
“Batman and Superman travel to Earth 2, where they find familiar heroes who are trying to kill them!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The first issue was a visual feast for the eyes and Pak expertly nailed the different voices of the two lead characters. Whereas the debut was just set-up, establishing their individual clashing personalities, this one looks to build on the shock ending. Traveling to Earth 2 is quite an exciting prospect and its nice to see some inter-connectivity between the two worlds. Watching Superman and Batman’s relationship grow from their initial encounter is the crutch of this series and if Issue #1 was any indication, we’re in for a real treat.

The Flash #22
Flash #22
Creative Team
Brian Buccellato and Francis Manapul
Solicitation
“History is made when The Flash comes face to face with Reverse Flash for the first time!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
At long last it is time for the Flash’s greatest villain to meet our hero. How epic will the ensuing fight scene be? With Manapul on art you can pretty much guarantee that the answer will be “pretty epic indeed!” Who is the Reverse-Flash? This is a mystery that I’m dying to find the answer to. How will the first of their many confrontations turn out? Will it exceed my wildest dreams? Wednesday can’t come fast enough!

Hawkeye Annual #1
Hawkeye Annual #1
Creative Team
Matt Fraction and Javier Pulido
Solicitation

“Go west, young lady! Kate Bishop heads to Los Angeles — to get away from New York, life, and Clint Barton-but NOT trouble! But Madame Masque is hanging out at poolside with the rich and famous as well! Who is Kate Bishop? Find out alongside Kate Bishop herself as a wild new status quo comes to HAWKEYE.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
An all-Kate issue? Sold. But wait, there’s more? The return of Madam Masque? A new status quo? My #1 Marvel series looks to astound me once again. Can this series possibly get any better?

Justice League Dark #22
Justice League Dark #22
Creative Team
Jeff Lemire and Mikel Janin
Solicitation
“‘TRINITY WAR’ part 3! The most shocking story of the year continues as Justice League Dark must battle both the Justice League and the Justice League of America in the wake of a murder you never thought possible! It’s an extra-sized issue you won’t want to miss!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
It’s time for the next chapter. The JLD made a cameo at the end of the previous entry but the team looks to officially get in on the action with this issue’s release. I’m really looking forward to see how Constantine interacts with the rest of the heavy hitters and I’m also enjoying the smattering of the Question we’ve gotten so far. I’m enjoying the crossover and this enjoyment looks to carry over to here as well.

Rocketeer/Spirit: Pulp Friction #1
Rocketeer Spirit Pulp Friction #1 (of 4) (Subscription Variant)
Creative Team

Mark Waid and Paul Smith
Solicitation
“The Spirit, created by Will Eisner, and The Rocketeer, created by Dave Stevens, are two of the most beloved characters in the history of comics. Now, these two great pulp-inspired heroes meet for the very first time! A Central City Councilman disappears and is found dead in Los Angeles. Commissioner Dolan, along with Denny Colt  (AKA The Spirit) and his daughter Ellen in tow, treks out to the City of Angels to investigate. Meanwhile, Cliff Secord (The Rocketeer) consoles his sweetheart Betty… who is traumatized after accidentally discovering the politicians body!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The Rocketeer. The Spirit. Individually they are two amazing characters…but put the two of them together in the same comic and you’ve just blown my mind. With Waid lined up as the writer, how can this series get any better? This mighty crossover has mighty huge expectations associated with it but if anything can deliver it’s this perfect storm of characters and creative team that will most assuredly leave us with mouths wide open.
