On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 09/04/13

Radar

In this feature I’ll highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Forever Evil #1
Forever Evil #1 (of 7)
Creative Team
Geoff Johns and David Finch
Solicitation
“The first universe-wide event of The New 52 begins as FOREVER EVIL launches! The Justice League is DEAD! And the villains shall INHERIT the Earth! An epic tale of the world’s greatest super-villains starts here!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Hot on the heels of the conclusion to Justice League #23, this series looks to pick up the pieces. That jaw dropping reveal at the end of Trinity War would have had more impact if DC didn’t spoil it beforehand but it was well executed none the less. This is the backbone/essential series for Villain’s Month, a promotion that I’m already beyond excited for due to my penchant for all things villainous. Oh, and having Johns and Finch is a perfect one-two punch as well.

Green Arrow #23.1: Count Vertigo
Green Arrow #23.1 Count Vertigo (Standard Edition)
Creative Team
Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino
Solicitation

“Get set for the twisted origin of Count Vertigo! Why is the Count in Vancouver on the hunt for Green Arrow, and what could have happened to make him such a sadistic adversary?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Andrea Sorrentino has been wowing us with his art ever since he came onto this title but his depiction of Count Vertigo and his powers have kicked it to another level. This issue looks to shed some light on this new version of the Count and I can’t wait to see how his origin will differ from the previously established continuity. Also, did I read that right? He’s going to be in Vancouver? Yeah, that earns it serious brownie points for me.

Superior Spider-Man #17
Superior Spider-Man #17
Creative Team
Dan Slott and Ryan Stegman
Solicitation

“HE’S BACK…BECAUSE YOU (LOUDLY) DEMANDED IT! THE RETURN OF SPIDEY 2099! (and an Osborn you have not seen in a while)”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Spider-Man 2099! Enough said!

X-Factor #262
X-Factor #262
Creative Team
Peter David and Neil Edwards
Solicitation
“The end of X-Factor!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The end is here…unfortunately. Peter David has consistently delivered quality issue after quality issue during his lengthy tenure on this series. He made me care for Jamie Madrox and turned Layla Miller from a convenient plot device into a full-blown, three-dimensional character. That’s why, if this series has to end, its only fitting that it stars these two characters which coincidentally are my two favourites. Hopefully it won’t be too long until we see them again in another series (possibly X-Factor Marvel NOW 2?) but regardless of when or where they show up, I expect an extremely satisfying and emotional conclusion to this current incarnation of the series.

X-Men: Battle of the Atom #1
X-Men Battle of the Atom #1
Creative Team

Brian Michael Bendis and Frank Cho
Solicitation
“The past, present and future of the X-Men collide in this 50th Anniversary event crossover! When investigating a new mutant, something truly horrible happens to the All-New X-Men that shakes time and space to its core. This is so dire that X-Men come from THE FUTURE with a message: THE ALL-NEW X-MEN MUST RETURN TO THE PAST! The ten-part crossover starts here with superstars BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS and FRANK CHO!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The X-Verse crossover sees its official kickoff with this issue’s release, a crossover that I’m really looking forward to. How come? X-Men of the past + X-Men of the present + X-Men of the future = one intriguing concept. While some may say “been there, done that” I personally love anything to do with time travel so they have me hooked. The first issue of any event is always a sign of the quality for the rest of it but I have faith it will meet or possibly even exceed my expectations.
