In #Trending I’ll highlight and offer my opinions on any comic-related news that occurred during the week. This will included news about comic books, comic-related movies, TV shows, video games, etc. while also highlighting various Comic Book Cosplay (one female and one male). A very slow Week for news. Let’s begin:
FOX Travels To GothamOn the very same night that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. made its debut, DC made a television announcement of their own: they will be teaming up with FOX to create a live-action series starring Commissioner Gordon back when he was a young Detective. There was a bidding war between the various networks including the CW (home of Arrow and The Flash) but in the end FOX emerged victorious. The show, called Gotham and created by Bruno Heller (The Mentalist), has skipped the pilot stage and has been given a straight-to-order confirmation. It will focus on the aforementioned Gordon as well as some various Gotham City villains but they were quick to mention…do not expect any Batman appearances. So in the Fall of 2014, we could possibly be looking at three DC shows on the air. Awesomeness personified!
A “Wondrous” Casting CallWarner Brothers is looking for a new female lead for their upcoming Superman VS Batman movie. They are looking for someone between the ages of twenty five and thirty three and for her to be physically strong. This vagueness on their part has left many casting agencies assuming that this role is for none other than Wonder Woman. Warner Brothers is refusing to confirm this, even to the agents they’re negotiating with, but they’ve also failed to deny it as well. Could we actually see DC’s Trinity in this movie? Will it be a small cameo that will lead into Justice League? Is it wild speculation or awesome fact? Only time will tell!
(#1) Joker’s Daughter #1 continues to ask for high prices with the 3D cover selling from anywhere between $40 and $100, with one even soaring to $130. Absolutely crazy! Catwoman #23, actually her first New 52 appearance though, is only going for $20 in comparison.
(#1) Dan Slott continues to hype Issue #20 of Superior Spider-Man: “ Looking over all of Giuseppe Camuncoli’s gorgeous art for SSM #20. This is one of my FAVORITE issues of the run so far. You will freak out! There are SO many WTH moments in SSM #20! & SO many things in this issue that will be felt in the pgs of Spider-Man books for YEARS to come! In 2014, when Spider-Man fans ask ‘When did that start?’ or ‘When did that first show up?’ They’ll be talking about SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #20. I’m expecting people to be completely blindsided by Superior Spider-Man #20. They’ll be like ‘WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED HERE?’ Secrets will be revealed, threats for the future will emerge, and when you add that to the stuff that’s going on in the present it’s a key issue.” Anyone willing to take a guess?
(#2) The Facebook game Marvel: Avengers Alliance unveiled a new character this week, Thane the son of Thanos. He is described as: “This mysterious being appeared during Thanos’ invasion of Earth. What he is and where he came from remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain; he holds tremendous power in his hands. He has powers in the game to seal people in amber… and to play with life and death!” So…Thane debuts in the Facebook game before the actual comic? Strange indeed!
(#3) Iron Man #17 one way or another involves Arno Stark, the Iron Man of 2020. The issue’s cover and contents are currently classified.
(#1) Alan Cumming, who previously played Nigthcrawler in the second X-Men movie, revealed why you won’t be seeing him BAMF into the X-Men: Days of Future Past film: “There was a time when it was maybe going to happen, but I wasn’t available so it didn’t happen. I really loved that film I was in, don’t get me wrong, I thought it was a great film, but it wasn’t my favourite experience of my life.” Truly a shame…
(#2) Grant Gustin revealed his thoughts and dropped some info about his character, in regards to being cast as the Flash for Arrow: “I’m kind of running around a little bit, but mostly just for fun at this point. Just because I’m really excited…I’m a little fanboy. I’m so excited to be a part of the show. I got an audition and I was really excited and a little skeptical at first, because I’m a comic book fan. I know the character and know I’m a little young. I know I’m coming on as up-and-coming in my field. He’s not going to be The Flash immediately, obviously. We’re going to be Barry Allen first in two episodes and then he’ll come back later as The Flash. I haven’t actually had a chance to read any scripts yet, so we’ll see. I didn’t realize before I started doing all my research that he can actually time travel, he can run so fast. I think that’d be a really fun thing to play with on the show is him kind of going to different times and experimenting with that. That’d be fun. I would imagine, when The Flash comes he’ll be in a pretty traditional Flash costume. That’s kind of what I’ve caught wind of.” Here’s a guy with a great attitude and this fact coupled with the revelation that we’ll be getting the Flash’s iconic outfit has me smiling from ear to ear.
