On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 10/09/13

Radar

In this feature I’ll highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Batman #24

“In this amazing, double-sized issue, Batman is on the trail of the Red Hood Gang and their mysterious leader, secret origins are revealed, and a major surprise will change the course of Zero Year and Batman’s life!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
With Villains Month having wrapped up, it’s time to shift our focus back to Zero Year and what a welcome back present we get. Since we were deprived of the storyline for a month we are getting two issues jammed into one. While I still try to wager my guess as to the identity of the Red Hood, I’m seriously intrigued about this “major surprise”. Double the content, double the enjoyment, and double the awesomeness this week!

Forever Evil: Arkham War #1
Forever Evil Arkham War #1 (of 6)
Creative Team
Peter J. Tomasi and Scot Eaton
Solicitation

“As FOREVER EVIL hits the world, no corner of the DC Universe is in worse shape than Gotham City! Madness and mayhem hit the streets as both Arkham Asylum and Blackgate Prison unleash their prisoners upon the helpless citizens of Gotham. And with no Dark Knight to protect the city, what horrors will follow?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
NEW SERIES ALERT! I’m a major fan of the villains of Gotham City so an entire mini-series focused on them is quite a blessing for me. The seeds of this series were planted in the various Villains Month titles and we can look forward to the Arkham Crew versus the villains of Blackgate led by Bane. Showcasing Bane as a strategist instead of a mindless brute is a prize in itself but it is the interactions between this collection of Bat-Foes that really gets me excited. Add that to the man that’s been knocking it out of the park on Batman & Robin writing the series and you have a recipe for success.

Infinity #4
Infinity #4 (of 6)
Creative Team
Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opena
Solicitation

“Negotiating the fall of worlds. The Illuminati versus Thanos. Thor, God of War.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
I must be sounding like a broken record but this series is excellent. Just read that solicitation and tell me that doesn’t get you excited. If that doesn’t convince you why I’m looking forward to it, no other words can.

Suicide Squad #24
Suicide Squad #24
Creative Team
Matt Kindt and Patrick Zircher
Solicitation
“A ‘FOREVER EVIL’ tie-in! Belle Reve has been turned to rubble and the inmates are on the loose! Alone, Amanda Waller must fight her way out and form a new Suicide Squad! Or is a new team already in place?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Matt Kindt’s Villains Month issues starring Deadshot and Harley Quinn show that this series is in good hands as he makes his proper series debut with this issue. The tease of a new Squad is interesting but the real selling point for me is seeing those two characters featured on the cover kicking a whole lot of butt.

Superman/Wonder Woman #1
Superman Wonder Woman #1
Creative Team

Charles Soule and Tony S. Daniel
Solicitation
“Beginning a bold new series that details the relationship between The Man of Steel and the Warrior Princess as rising star writer Charles Soule is joined by fan favorite artist Tony S. Daniel to tell the tale of a romance that will shake the stars themselves. These two super-beings love each other, but not everyone shares their joy. Some fear it, some test it-and some will try to kill for it. Some say love is a battlefield, but where Superman and Wonder Woman are concerned it spells Doomsday!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
NEW SERIES ALERT! Amazing art by a talented artist? Check. A series featuring both Superman and Wonder Woman? Check. Action and romance? Check. Oh…and did someone mention Doomsday? Check. This new series, besides giving Wonder Woman another title (finally) looks like it is going to hit the ground running and I can’t wait to come along for the ride.

  1. I’ve decided to add Avengers AI to my pull list. So I’ll be picking up that, Fearless Defenders, Uncanny X-Force, and X-Men (which is the book I’m most looking forward to).

      • I haven’t been buying it, but I’ve been reading it, and enjoying it. I also decided to add Nova to my pull list, for much the same reason, though I have serious problems about how Zeb Wells is writing Speedball.

        • I tried Nova but couldn’t justify the $3.99 price point. I mean, I can see a big name book costing that much but Nova is anything but big name. Its a shame as they’ve put out some books I’ve been unsure of and I don’t bother taking the plunge because of it.

          • Yeah, that’s true. Marvel’s pricing is getting annoying. They’ve got barely any $3 books left. They’re almost all $4. It’s an increasingly expensive hobby. Still, I want to show my support for a more diverse line, so I’ll buy the half-Hispanic solo title.
