On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 10/23/13

Radar

In this feature I’ll highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

The Flash #24
Flash #24
Creative Team
Brian Buccellato and Francis Manapul
Solicitation
“Barry’s battle against the Reverse-Flash ends with major revelations and The Flash facing an impossible challenge!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Manapul’s run is racing to its conclusion and the second-to-last stop is resolving the threat from the menace know as the Reverse-Flash. Time travel, beautiful art, and a shocking revelation is just the type of story that shifts my anticipation levels into overdrive.

Infinity Heist #2
Infinity Heist #2 (of 4)
Creative Team
Frank Tieri and Al Barrionuevo
Solicitation

“Thanos’ armies invade–it’s the perfect cover for the crime of the century! But as Spymaster unveils his plan, what the hell’s wrong with Blizzard? Frank Tieri and Al Barrionuevo continue this trip to the dark side!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The first issue was a highly enjoyable affair that was reminiscent of another stellar series, the Superior Foes of Spider-Man. I can’t stress enough how much I loved the debut offering and pray that the following three issues are more of the same. I’m pretty confident that is exactly what will transpire though.

Iron Man #17
Iron Man #17
Creative Team
Kieron Gillen and Carlo Pagulayan
Solicitation
“NOTHING WILL EVER BE THE SAME! MORE MIND-BLOWING REVELATIONS AS “THE SECRET ORIGIN OF TONY STARK” CONCLUDES! What 451 didn’t know. What TONY didn’t know. What changes things FOREVER.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
You know something big is going to happen when the solicitation is almost entirely in capitals. This issue looks to wrap up the “Secret Origin” arc, blow our collective minds, and somehow tie into Iron Man 2020 while changing the status quo irrevocably. Yeah, this should be good.

Uncanny Avengers #13
Uncanny Avengers #13
Creative Team
Rick Remender and Salvador Larroca
Solicitation
“Ragnarök is now ! Against his masters’ orders a deranged and vengeful Sentry kills an Uncanny Avenger! No hoax, no dream and only the first casualty of many! To allow reinforcements from other eras The Wasp must find and destroy the Twins Tachyon transmitter, but first she’ll have to defeat The Grim Reaper. Scarlet Witch makes an impossible choice that will define her forever. Sunfire and Rogue, alone without back up, must defeat the combined might of both Apocalypse Twins or watch the end of our world!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
An Avenger will die in this issue! How long he or she is dead is not the point but the identity of said Avenger perishing is the mystery of the week. I’m just of the belief that the death should mean something, that it should propel the story forward and not happen just for the shock of it. I hope they do not disappoint. Anyone want to take any guesses?

Venom #42
Venom #42
Creative Team

Cullen Bunn and Jorge Coelho
Solicitation
“It’s all out war . . . with Venom, Mania, Crossbones, the DOA, and . . . Mephisto? But who’s on whose side? Mania’s final fate is revealed! Will she keep the symbiote? Is this the end of Venom’s dance with the devil? Or just the beginning?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Over that last 42 issues, Venom has been a pretty good series. It started off strong then dipped a little when the new writer took over but over that last 10 issues it has come pretty close to matching what has come before. It saddens me that this series is ending but I’m also super excited to see how everything will play out.

  1. I’ll be getting Iron Man, Nova and Young Avengers. I’ll also be getting Pretty Deadly, by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Emma Rios. DeConnick’s a great writer, and Rios is a fantastic artist, so I need to buy this. Rios’ art is always just beautiful. So I’d definitely recommend checking Pretty Deadly out.
