On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 11/20/13

Radar

In this feature I’ll highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Atomic Robo and the Savage Sword of Dr. Dinosaur #3
Atomic Robo Savage Sword Of Dr Dinosaur #3 (of 5)

Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener
Solicitation
“Majestic 12 tightens its noose around Tesladyne. Meanwhile Atomic Robo is trapped in Hollow Earth where Dr. Dinosaur has, like, five nuclear weapons and he wants to use them to destroy time itself. Probably he’ll just poison the entire atmosphere with radioactive dust though.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The wait has been far too long for the next issue to see release but that just made this one all the more anticipated. Charming, humorous, action-packed: these are all staples of any issue in this franchise. That this latest arc focusses on the fantastic Dr. Dinosaur just makes it all the more enjoyable.

Batman & Two-Face #25
Batman And Two-Face #25
Creative Team
Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason
Solicitation

“As Two-Face continues his rampage through Gotham City, more light is shed on his past. Who is Carrie Kelley and how can her mysterious connection to Harvey Dent help Batman?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
A mysterious connection to Carrie Kelley? Whatever could that be? For a series that I thought was over once Damian was killed, it just keeps getting better and better. Tomasi has simply nailed his portrayal of Two-Face and the fact that we are going to be treated to another three issues of this arc after this one is quite a pleasure indeed.

Harley Quinn #0

Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, & Others
Solicitation
“This bombastic debut issue features art by award-winning illustrators including Darwyn Cooke, Sam Kieth, Tony S. Daniel, Paul Pope, Walter Simonson, Art Baltazar and others-but will any of them measure up to the exacting standards of the Clown Princess of Crime? Don’t miss the thrilling return of Harley Quinn in her own monthly series!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Harley Quinn is one of my Top 3 favourite Bat-Villains so an entire series all to her own is a welcome sight. That it is headed by the fantastic tandem of Conner and Palmiotti is the icing on the cake. This first issue looks to highlight a whole plethora of artists (one per page) in what should amount to one hell of an opening act.

Imagine Agents #2
Imagine Agents #2 (of 4)
Creative Team
Brian Joines and Bachan
Solicitation
“YOU MAY HAVE FORGOTTEN ABOUT THEM. BUT YOUR IMAGINARY FRIEND HASN’T FORGOT ABOUT YOU. Terry and Dave must gather their wits and uncover the mystery behind Dapple’s evil plan. With the help of the toy-filled, lovable gelatin-mass, Blounder, they may just have a chance to crack the case. Unbeknownst to them, the kidnapping of Furdlegurr has put 6-year-old Elliot Fairview onto Dapple’s trail.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The first issue was not on my pull-list but rather I picked it up for my “Off The Shelf” feature. What I was met with was a highly enjoyable story that left me wanting more, a testament of any good series. This follow-up is the make-it or break-it point but if the debut was any indication I’m fairly confident that it will meet, if not exceed, my expectations. I can’t wait to see where it goes from here after that shock twist at the end of the previous one.

Young Avengers #12
Young Avengers #12
Creative Team

Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie
Solicitation
“The Young Avengers versus ‘The Young Avengers’. The stakes? What have you got? Loki’s scheme reaches its final twist. Expect the team’s jaws to just hit the floor and lie there, twitching for the rest of the comic. A tempting offer for Noh-Varr may get an arrow through his head. Other romance based drama too, as kissing is the new planetary extinction event.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Everything that has occurred these last 11 issues has been building up to this: the final battle, the final twists, the quote-unquote jaw dropping resolution. Along with that we are guaranteed superb visuals with at least one mind-blowing sequence from McKelvie and fantastic dialogue from Gillen including at least one thoroughly enjoyable Loki-moment that makes me wish he was writing the character’s new solo series. This is going to be awesome!

  1. I might have to drop something this week. I’m planning on picking up A+X, Nova, Uncanny X-Men, X-Men, Young Avengers and My Little Pony. Six comics seems like a bit much. I don’t know. I guess I’ll drop A+X. So that’ll leave me only 5 books.
