On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 12/18/13

Radar

In this feature I’ll highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

FF #15
FF #15

Creative Team

Lee Allred and Mike Allred
Solicitation
“Invasion Latveria: the Video Game! Four stand-in replacement heroes and a dozen kids versus Dr. Doom, now transformed into the ultimate power in the universe: Doom the Annihilating Conqueror! What a time to run out of quarters! Game over, man! Game over!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Read that solicitation and I dare you to tell me that you are not intrigued but what is going to unfold. This series is pure zaniness and being teamed-up with the simply awesome art of Allred makes it a can’t miss attraction. The fact that after this issue comes out there is only going to be one more before it rides off into the sunset makes me really sad. I just hope and pray that the new Fantastic Four series has room for this richly developed cast to be highlighted in…

Forever Evil: Rogues Rebellion #3
Forever Evil Rogues Rebellion #3 (of 6)
Creative Team
Brian Buccellato and Scott Hepburn
Solicitation

“The Rogues continue their flight from the ruthless Crime Syndicate, who have put a bounty on their heads. But en route back to Central City, Mirror Master’s powers malfunction, and they land in the middle of the events of ARKHAM WAR with pretty much every Bat-villain around going after the bounty!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Wait a minute! The Rogues and Batman’s gallery of villains in the same issue? What did I do to deserve such a treat?

Superior Spider-Man #24
Superior Spider-Man #24
Creative Team
Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos
Solicitation
“DARKEST HOURS Part 3 of 4: ‘Complications’ The birth of a new Goblin! The return of Cardiac! MJ’s greatest fear! And the one question everyone will be asking: ‘Who is THE SUPERIOR VENOM?!’ Good luck, Superior Spider-Man! You’re gonna need it!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The first two parts of this latest event slowly ratcheted up the action while exploring the various relationships between the supporting cast. That Slott balances all these various subplots at once is truly astounding and being backed by the skill of Ramos on art only makes everything that much better. With the arrival of the Superior Venom at the end of last issue, my anticipation levels are reaching max capacity as I try to theorize just who out there could possibly stop him?

Uncanny Avengers #15
Uncanny Avengers #15
Creative Team
Rick Remender and Steve McNiven
Solicitation
“After the numerous deaths last issue the Avengers Unity Squad is left shattered and broken. The fate of humanity rests in the hands of Thor, but can the God of Thunder defeat the combined might of two Apocalypses? At the same time The Wasp fights for her life against the unparalleled might of The Sentry!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
After last issue’s shocking and controversial deaths, this follow-up will decide if it was done just for shock value or if there was indeed a larger plan. I’m hoping its the latter…please be the latter. Regardless, the solicitation promises not one but two mighty battles that should each be interesting in their own right. I have placed my faith in Remender’s hands, don’t let me down.

Young Avengers #14
Young Avengers (2013) #14
Creative Team

Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, and Others
Solicitation
“RESOLUTION (1 of 2) We gather in a night club, and have a string of connected and overlapping stories starring our cast. It’s a completely and unprecedented approach to a story in comics history. There are no parallels. We refuse to accept it. Team Young Avengers are joined by an all-start cast of some people we really like. Each individual section gets one individual artist. It’s a metaphor, probably. It’s been one hell of a year. In two episodes, one before and one after the new year, the Young Avengers get resolution. You guys do as well.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The battle is over, the good guys have won. Now the time has come for the final two issues of this series and if you were expecting wall-to-wall action you are going to be seriously disappointed. If instead you wanted slice of life moments, explorations of the various characters’ emotional problems, and one hell of a good read then you are going to get your wish. My only gripe: that I have to wait almost an entire month for the second part.
