In #Trending I’ll highlight and offer my opinions on any comic-related news that occurred during the week. This will include news about comic-related movies, TV shows, video games, etc. while also highlighting various Comic Book Cosplay. Let’s begin:
Superman/Batman RumorsIt’s time for the latest batch of Batman/Superman movie rumors:
1. Jason Mamoa will not be Martian Manhunter or Aquaman. Neither character is in the film.
2. Wonder Woman could have a “cameo plus” type role in the film, on par with what Scarlett Johansson did in Iron Man 2
3. The film is truly a Superman sequel and not a secret Justice League film.
4. Batman’s character will be, “ a healthy amount of Dark Knight Returns, a bit of Kingdom Come, and just a dash of Batman Beyond.”
5. No Batman villains will be included.
6. No shade of blue or tights for the Batsuit.
Bryan Singer Talks X-MenFirst Bryan Singer discussed X-Men: Days of Future Past: “It will address historical mutant-cy, meaning the deep past, mutant origins and things like that. It’s something that’s always intrigued me when we think about our Gods and our history and miracles and powers.” Then he revealed that for the sequel (X-Men: Apocalypse) he is co-writing the story and producing it but is still negotiating to direct. The major hold-up in making a deal happen is that Singer wants a cut of the ticket sales for the sequel.
(#1) Movie star Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock) tweeted this past week that he had a meeting with a higher-up at Warner Brothers about participating in a DC project in 2014. He had this to say: “So… this may end up being something about a comic book but I think, all things considered, it’s likely to be a movie project. Which one? Ah, I dare not gamble on committing myself.” Since then fans everywhere have offered their own opinions on who they think he’ll play ranging from Doomsday to Black Adam to Lobo but the latest rumor making the rounds is that he may be playing Green Lantern John Stewart. Let the speculation continue!
(#2) MTV was interviewing Evan Jonigkeit about his role in X-Men: Days of Future Past and he illuminated us on who he will be playing: “I read a lot of the comic books. I found out the storyline of my character, who is Toad. X-Men fans will know that Ray Park played him in the first movie, so it’s a generation story of how he came to be. It’s really cool.” Cool indeed!
Television News (#1) Danny Cannon was revealed to be the Director of the very first episode of Gotham (the Commissioner Gordon TV Show on FOX). He apparently will also be an executive producer for the show as well.
(#2) Rumors are swirling that Marvel are planning an animated Guardians of the Galaxy TV show. Makes sense considering a movie is coming out but it is still an unproven property so they are taking a big risk here if the movie fails to capture the general public’s interest.
(#3) Stan Lee will be guest-starring on an episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. this season. It’s not going to be just a cameo either as Stan has mentioned that it will be a “big role.” How can you not be happy about this news?
Other Comic Media News
(#1) All-new story DLC is coming later in 2014 to the video game Batman: Arkham Origins. The DLC will feature classic Bat-villain Mr. Freeze.
