Great covers to pick from here, really liked Flash #233 with Reverse Flash about to steal Flash’s identity just as Iris walks in, wow, what an amazing cover! I also really liked Uncanny X-Men #169 where Angel has fallen, defeated, his wings pinned to the wall. This was a defining moment for the character, and had big implications for years to come.
We were so close this week as both of the covers you named were my runner-ups. Some really solid choices. UXM #169 is especially excellent. I love the perspective and the enticing captions. After you’ve read the issue, this cover takes it to another level indeed.
Thanks for sharing your choices!
I really like The Flash # 233 as well.
First of all, on the left there is Flash’s wife opening the door and saying: “Hi honey! I’m home!” As you know, I love when a writer decides to focus on the private life of the superhero he’s working on, so this slice – of – life detail instantly won me over.
And then I looked under her feet, and I noticed a very enticing tagline: “Deadly Secret of the Flash!” It seems that our hero has a skeleton in the cupboard, and the writer is about to unveil it: how could you prevent yourself from buying that issue and getting to know what the tagline is alluding to?
I also love how the bright colours used for the 2 costumes stand out thanks to the dark background surrounding them.
This cover shows the imposter cliché: as you know, I don’t usually give the gold medal to a cover it if shows an hackneyed narrative choice, but in this case I decided to make an exception to the rule.
As for the X – Men, I pick UXM # 172. Logan getting married, a dagger piercing through his invitation card, the shadow of the dagger covering the name of his wife (possibly suggesting that next time the dagger’s owner will try to pierce her)… what an eye – catching and spooky image! : )
Special mention for UXM # 165: even in 1983 the UXM cover artist decided to create a cover having a real nice horror vibe, and I really appreciate that.

I agree. I can’t fathom what this secret could possibly be. On a side note, this year marked a lot of dead Flashes. #233 and #234 (back to back? Really?) and #235 which mixes it up by having the Golden Age Flash meeting his maker. Rumors of their deaths were greatly exaggerated! 🙂
“As for the X – Men, I pick UXM # 172.”
As I mentioned to Paul Bowler, Flash #233 was my runner-up as was UXM #169. Your selection would be right behind #169 though for the very reasons you stated. I also love the little personal note to Nightcrawler written on the invitation: “Hey Elf – don’t forget the beer!”
Thanks, as always, for providing your selections! Much appreciated.
“I also love the little personal note to Nightcrawler written on the invitation: “Hey Elf – don’t forget the beer!”” Nice catch GothamRogue, that had passed me by! : )
