On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 04/02/14

Radar

In this feature I’ll highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Action Comics #30
Action Comics #30
Creative Team

Greg Pak and Aaron Kuder
Solicitation
“Following the events of FOREVER EVIL, Superman confronts Lex Luthor–but the world has turned around for these two. The hero has become the villain and the villain the hero as forces beyond these two gather to destroy the Man of Steel, beginning with a dormant Doomsday who has crossed over from the Phantom Zone!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
So far I’ve really been enjoying Pak’s run on this series, a series that is arguably the best Superman title produced today. This issue looks to kick it up a notch by having a Superman-Lex Luthor interaction (always a great thing) albeit with a twist: the teased role-reversal that is going to take place. How Superman becomes a villain is unknown as is if it is going to be literally or indirectly but regardless of that it should be an excellent next chapter in Pak’s early tenure.

Detective Comics #30
Detective Comics #30
Creative Team
Brian Buccellato and Francis Manapul
Solicitation

“A bold new direction for DETECTIVE COMICS as THE FLASH creative team of Francis Manapul and Brian Buccelato take over the creative reins! Batman finds himself knee-deep in a new mystery involving a deadly new narcotic that has hit the streets of Gotham City.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
I loved, loved, loved their run on Flash so much with that series now being a shell of its former self since Manapul left. The good news is this dynamic duo have returned to reinvorgate Detective Comics just in time for Batman’s 75th anniversary year. I’m preparing myself for absolutely drop-dead gorgeous art that will stay with me long since I’ve read the issue.

Green Arrow #30
Green Arrow #30
Creative Team
Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino
Solicitation
“‘The Outsiders War’ Part 5! Arrow and Robert face a mob of Outsiders. It looks bad . . . but the cavalry is about to arrive in the form of Katana, Butcher, Magus and Kodiak! Will they be in time to save the day? ”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
What more can I say about this series that I haven’t already said? Every month it is a perennial favourite and routinely is in my Top 5 most anticipated titles every week it is released. I can think of no greater testament to this book’s awesomeness.

Moon Knight #2
Moon Knight #2
Creative Team
Warren Ellis and Declan Shalvey
Solicitation
“The best new comic of 2014 continues with a story that has to be experienced to be believed!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The first issue of this series defied my expectations and blew me away. I though there was a chance it would be good but I wasn’t expecting it being that good. I’m crossing my fingers that the follow-up is more of the same!

She-Hulk #3
She-hulk #3
Creative Team
Charles Soule and Javier Pulido
Solicitation
“We the people find you DOOM! When the son of Victor Von Doom seeks extradition, Jen Walters will go to the ends of the earth for Justice! All this, and Matt Murdock too as Charles Soule (THUNDERBOLTS) and Javier Pulido (HAWKEYE) continue 2014’s sleeper hit! ”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Two issues in and I’m really loving this series. It has a Hawkeye quality to it that makes me think that it will one day be in my Top 5 comics for Marvel in my Rankings. With this issue we not only get the son of Doom but Daredevil as well? Absolute perfection!

  1. Pretty Deadly! Finally, FINALLY, the fifth issue comes out! It frigging took long enough.

Aside from that: Loki, New Warriors, She-Hulk.

But mostly, I’m psyched for Pretty Deadly.

      • #6 will actually be a few months. KSD and Emma Rios are doing 5-issue arcs, with several months in between each. That, I was prepared for. Having #5 delayed from the end of February to the start of April was just a piss-off.
