On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 05/21/14

Radar

It is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Amazing Spider-Man #2
Amazing Spider-Man #2

Creative Team

Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos
Solicitation
“Electro’s power is out of control! And only one person can fix it . . . the Superior Spider-Man! Wait. This book’s the AMAZING Spider-Man now. So we’re probably out of luck. Plus: That thing that freaked you out last issue? There’s more on that. The return of you-know-who? There’s MUCH more on that. Action! Drama! Surprises! There’s MORE OF EVERYTHING!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Electro is one of my favourite Spider-Man villains ever. Electro is on the cover. Electro is featured inside this issue prominently. Need I really go on?

Amazing X-Men #7
Amazing X-Men #7

Creative Team
Kathryn Immonen and Paco Medina
Solicitation

“Guest-starring THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN! Iceman, Firestar and Spider-Man renew their amazing friendship to save New York City.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends return this week as Kathryn Immonen reunites the trio of heroes in this one and done issue. Seeing these three together again should produce some great results in large part to the involvement of the talented Kathryn Immonen herself!

Forever Evil #7
Forever Evil #7 (of 7)
Creative Team
Geoff Johns and David Finch
Solicitation
“It’s evil versus evil in the shocking “take-no-prisoners” conclusion to FOREVER EVIL! What will be the fate of Lex Luthor and his Injustice League? Who will live – and who will die? And why is The Hooded Man the most feared being from the Syndicate’s world? Do not miss this startling finale that will leave the DC universe reeling and reveal the secrets to the future!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The end is finally here albeit a little later than expected thanks to a few delays along the way. Regardless of the lateness, it hasn’t hampered my excitement in seeing the villains save the day against the even bigger villains of the Crime Syndicate. And how can they possibly defeat this seemingly all-powerful “hooded man” whose identity I will not spoil here? It should be one hell of a finale and prove that old adage that the wait was worth it or more precisely all good things come to those who wait.

Justice League #30
Justice League #30

Creative Team
Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis
Solicitation
“It all changes here with the first chapter of “INJUSTICE LEAGUE”! The next era of the Justice League begins as heroes quit, villains join and a Justice League roster you’ve never seen before emerges, led by the world’s greatest hero–LEX LUTHOR?! As the dust settles and the bodies are buried, the violent consequences of FOREVER EVIL must be dealt with–while a mysterious new force sets its target on the League. But is this force friend or enemy? And why does he want Luthor dead? (If you ask Batman, it’s a long list.)”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
While Forever Evil reaches its conclusion this week we also get the aftermath here with this release. An all-new Justice League led by Lex Luthor? With Captain Cold as a member? The team dynamics in this book should be stellar while also taking a fresh twist on this iconic series.

TMNT 30th Anniversary Special
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 30th Anniversary Special
Creative Team
Tom Waltz, Kevin Eastman, and Others
Solicitation
“Celebrate the 30th anniversary of the first TMNT comics with this spectacular anthology of all-new tales from the comic creators who have most influenced the Turtles over the decades! The book will feature short stories from Kevin Eastman, as well as various stars of the Mirage, Image and Archie TMNT! The perfect collection for Turtle fans old and new!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
This issue looks to be a love letter to fans of the Turtles from their original debut 30 years ago until now. Having past creative teams join in on the celebration is fitting and will most likely spark interest in tracking down some of their older work especially for me since the basis of my love for the Turtles originated from their TV shows, Movies, and Video Games. Calling it a Special is apropos as it looks like it is going to be something very special indeed.

  1. Amazing X-Men 7 is the main one for me. Kathryn Immonen’s Journey Into Mystery run was painfully underrated and overlooked as a sheer work of genius that improved further with every issue. Her Avengers Annual was amazing, and … Amazing X-men 7 should be good.

Also picking up All New X-Factor 8, Magneto 4, Supergirl 31, Uncanny X-Men 21, Adjectiveless X-Men 14, Velvet 5, Thor: God of Thunder 22 and maybe Hulk 3.

Trying to cut back a bit, so once Thor’s current story is over I’m dropping it (might catch up on paperbacks later), and I might be dropping Hulk, although I kept telling myself I’d drop Indestructible Hulk and yet I stuck with it.

    • “Amazing X-men 7 should be good.”
Yes indeed. I’ve never read too much of hers but what I have (Patsy Walker: Hellcat & Pixie Strikes Back) I have enjoyed.

“I might be dropping Hulk, although I kept telling myself I’d drop Indestructible Hulk and yet I stuck with it.”
I was the same way. I kept wanting to drop Indestructible then I moved onto Hulk. After the second issue though I finally pulled the plug.

Thanks for sharing your pull-list. 🙂
