Between The Continuity – Looking Ahead At The Fall 2014 Season

Last week the various television networks unleashed their new shows and schedule for the Fall 2014 season. Amongst these shows there was a whole lot of comic book series making the transition to the small screen. Joining the likes of Arrow and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are The Flash, iZombie, Gotham, Constantine, and Agent Carter. I thought now was as good as time as any to show some trailers for these new shows where available and offer my thoughts and feelings on these new offerings:

The Flash

First we had the Arrow/Flash teaser which offered us a fun first glance of our new hero. Then we received not simply a trailer but a five-minute epic which ratcheted up my excitement levels for it to maximum. A faithful adaptation? Check. Weather Wizard? Check. The Arrow guest-starring? Check. The Reverse-Flash? Hell Yes! They showed us so much awesomeness in a mere 5 minutes that I can only imagine what the rest of the series will be like. Flash Fact: If you can only watch one new comic-based show, this is the one.

I love all things Batman-related but the early news about this show had me filled with trepidation. After watching the first trailer though that trepidation is eased somewhat. I’m still concerned on how they are going to handle these classic characters including the Joker but if they can successfully pull it off this series could be legendary.

Now this is how you do John Constantine! The show being on NBC has me worried as they have unfortunately shafted it to Friday nights, a night that has one of the lowest total viewers. It will pair well with their other show on Fridays (Grimm) but I’m crossing my fingers that it isn’t a one-and-done show that was gone all too soon.

iZombie & Agent Carter

Neither show had a trailer and both will be mid-season replacements. Agent Carter is going to consist of eight episodes and bridge the gap between the first half and the second half of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show. The Agent Peggy Carter One-Shot on the Iron Man 3 Blu-Ray was beyond excellent and this show should be more of the same. iZombie has no set start date but the concept mixed with the man behind Veronica Mars being in charge has me eagerly anticipating its arrival.

So those are my quick thoughts. Which show or shows is everyone else most looking forward to? Leave me a comment below.

  1. The Flash promo and extended trailer has me pretty excited. I”ll definitely be following The Flash, Gotham and Agent Carter next season plus I’ll give Constantine a try or catch up when it’s out on video.

    • Monday – Gotham. Tuesday – Flash & S.H.I.E.L.D.. Wednesday – Arrow. Friday – Constantine. 4 out of the 5 weekdays have comic-based shows and every network but CBS is in on the action. That is something truly special indeed. 🙂
