My Favourite Covers
Okay, so our journey through the past is complete for this week but which covers reign supreme?
For Legends of the Dark Knight, the crown goes to: Legends of the Dark Knight #69. This cover is truly a marvel to behold. Its background is highly detailed and combined with its moody colouring choice, plumes of smoke, and whirling gears it creates a striking image despite the fact that it doesn’t really tell us anything about the actual issue save for a potential location that the Dark Knight will be traveling to. Batman himself is drawn in a classic pose complete with flowing cape and shadowed silhouette. It captures the crown thanks to the first class effort on the part of the artist who deserves every accolade tossed his way.
For Daredevil, the title goes to: Daredevil #323. This fantastic image is simple, ominous, and quite effective. The main focal point of the cover is the sai, a weapon that is indelibly linked to Elektra and foreshadows that she will be making an appearance. Where the blade strikes the ground, blood oozes out and runs down and off the cover signifying that Elektra isn’t here for a social visit but for a violent and brutal battle that could possibly lead to a death by her hands. I love how the blade glints in the light but what really grabs me is the stern reflection of Daredevil in the centre of the sai. For those that hadn’t been following this series, seeing our hero in a red and black outfit is quite grabbing. That his colour scheme carries over to the rest of the cover which mirrors his suit is the phenomenal cherry on top of a cover that is simply the best of the best. ________________________________________________________
