On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 07/23/14

Radar

It is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Amazing Spider-Man #4
Amazing Spider-Man #4
Creative Team
Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos
Solicitation
“ORIGINAL SIN tie-in! The radioactive spider that gave Peter Parker his powers bit someone else, too! Who is Silk and where has she been? Don’t miss this incredible new character who will be a major Spider-player for the whole year!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
We’ve been teased about this new character Silk since the first issue of the relaunch and the time has finally come to learn more about this woman who was also bit by the radioactive spider. This will be the make-it or break-it chapter where we’ll either really like the addition or feel it was downright pointless. I for one am excited to see how Slott will handle her and am on the edge of my seat in anticipation.

Batman #33
Batman #33
Creative Team
Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo
Solicitation

“It’s been one hell of a year in Gotham City, and it all comes down to this: Batman vs. The Riddler! Gotham City and the Dark Knight will never be the same! Don’t miss this special, extra-sized finale of ‘Zero Year!'”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The time has come for the conclusion of Zero Year, a storyline that has lasted over an entire year. A year’s worth of build-up to reach a satisfying end is quite a lot of pressure but if any creative team can deliver it is Snyder and Capullo.

Daredevil #6
Daredevil #6
Creative Team

Mark Waid and Javier Rodriguez
Solicitation
“After nearly 30 years, the untold story of Matt Murdock’s mother will finally be revealed, courtesy of Eisner award-winning writer Mark Waid and critically acclaimed artist Javier Rodriguez! Raised in a broken home, Matt Murdock made peace with his mother’s absence long ago, even though he never knew why. Now, thanks to the events of Original Sin, the Man Without Fear will be set on a path that will send her crashing back into his life! Only their meeting won’t be exactly as he imagined! What is the dark secret that tore apart the Murdock family? How did Matt’s mother become Sister Maggie?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Say what you want about Original Sin and its forced alterations to many Marvel characters’ histories but this issue could possibly be the exception to the rule as I’m really anticipating learning more about Murdock’s mother and this supposed dark family secret. This comic has the potential to be a genuinely moving and emotional tale and could surpass many a comic this week.

TMNT: Turtles In Time #2
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Turtles In Time #2 (of 4)
Creative Team

Erik Burnham and Charles Paul Wilson
Solicitation
“The Turtles’ journey through time continues, and the next stop is Feudal Japan! The Turtles will meet some familiar faces and be forced to make one of the most important decisions of their lives. Will stopping the Shredder mean the end of the Turtles as we know them?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
I love the TMNT franchise haven grown-up with it as a kid. I’m a sucker for anything involving time travel. So taking the Turtles and tossing them through time should be awesome right? Most of the time (the less said about TMNT 3, the better). Having them not only go back in time but possibly altering the course of history as we know it will be nothing short of enjoyable. The major quandary of stopping the Shredder and being erased from existence or letting him go to preserve your future is quite an engaging plot point and one I’ll be eager to see play out before my very eyes.

Wonder Woman #33
Wonder Woman #33
Creative Team

Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang
Solicitation
“It’s the beginning of the end as writer Brian Azzarello and artist Cliff Chiang kick off the astonishing finale of their epic run! Olympus must fall, and its rightful ruler must be restored – but in Diana’s depraved family of demigods and gods, who can be trusted to rule with decency and justice?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Ever since the New 52 relaunch, this series has been consistently near the top quality wise of anything DC produces month-in and month-out so it is with a heavy heart that we enter into the final arc before this book is handed off to David Finch and his wife. With the finish line in sight I expect them to hold nothing back and take what is already an excellent title and make it even more awesome!

  1. After this week’s absolute wallet-murdering number of comics, next week will be Mighty Avengers, My Little Pony and Storm. (By the way, you’re not picking up Storm? Support diversity, man! For both the character and the writer.)

    • I like the character of Storm but I get enough of her in the other X-Titles so I really can’t justify the $3.99 price tag considering the first few solicitations didn’t grab me. I like her as part of a team but I don’t know if she can sustain a monthly series. I’ll flip through the first issue on the shelf to see if anything catches me so there is an outside chance I may pick it up if something blows me away…

  2. Really looking forward to Batman #33 and finding out how Zero Year ends. This story has been brilliant, a real epic, Snyder and Capullo are a fantastic team on this book. Will also look forward to Daredevil #6 as well! Have a great new comic book day 😀
