On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 08/13/14

Radar

It is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Batman #34
Batman #34
Creative Team
Scott Snyder and Matteo Scalera
Solicitation
“ZERO YEAR is over, and the events of BATMAN: ETERNAL have put Gotham City in a tailspin, but Batman is focused on finding a killer who has haunted his hometown in secret for years. This special issue features art by Matteo Scalera (DEADPOOL, Black Science) and sets the stage for the next major Batman story in the fall. ”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
As the solicitation said, Zero Year has come and gone. Now the time is here to ready ourselves for the next epic arc but before that happens we are treated to this palette cleanser. Being a one-shot isn’t a bad thing, no on the contrary it can amount to something pretty special indeed. We have a great artist, a mystery to be solved, and a hint at what is to come. What more could we possibly want?

Coffin Hill #10
Coffin Hill #10

Creative Team
Caitlin Kittredge and Inaki Miranda
Solicitation

“Eve and Detective Frost zero in on the Ice Fisher while the clock runs out on his latest victim’s life. Still jailed for Detective Donovan’s murder, Eve survives a cellblock attack motivated by more than a simple grudge and gets an offer from her new lawyer she can’t refuse! And in Coffin Hill, Patrick Finn’s resentment toward his brother Nate threatens to explode – and without Eve to stand by his side, Nate may not survive!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
This series’ second arc has really captured my attention. I absolutely love these flashback scenes to Eve as a cop on the trail of the Ice Fisher and this issue looks to have more of them. Add that to also showcasing the present day’s happenings and you have the perfect one-two punch.

Original Sin #7
Original Sin #7 (of 8)
Creative Team

 Jason Aaron and Mike Deodato
Solicitation
“The LAST BATTLEGROUND!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
It is the penultimate issue of an event comic that has just flown by. The big mystery of who killed the Watcher is still waiting to be solved and there is a very real possibility that we could learn the perpetrator’s identity here. That or we’ll get one more curveball. Regardless of what happens I’ve enjoyed this series for the most part and will be glued to the edge of my seat until the ride concludes.

Starlight #5
Starlight #5 (Cover A - Edwards)
Creative Team

Mark Millar and Goran Parlov
Solicitation
“Duke and Space-Boy are hiding out in the jungles of Tantalus with the rebels, under the command of Tilda Starr, the former head of the Queen’s Imperial Guard. Their aim: to retake the capital and free the people from the Brotean invaders! But their numbers are tiny, their hope is running low, and new secrets are coming out about the tragedies of Space-Boy’s past. ”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
This series has been awesome so far from the absolutely fantastic first issue until the previous one with the big betrayal. Sadly Starlight is only a six-issue mini so we have reached the second-to-last chapter. With the end fast approaching I expect Millar and Parlov to hold nothing back.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #37
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #37
Creative Team

Tom Waltz and Cory Smith
Solicitation
“From the start, two villains have dominated the Turtles’ lives: Shredder and Krang. Now, for the first time, they come face-to-face with each other in the present day! Will they be able to overcome their differences and join forces? It’s a very special stand-alone issue that guarantees some major surprises!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
I’m a sucker for any issue where the villains are the stars so already this issue has me riveted. Super-villain team-up…maybe? That is the big question here but the answer isn’t as important as the actual interaction between the Turtles’ two greatest enemies. I can’t wait to see how it plays out and did someone mention “major surprises” as in plural? Cowabunga!

  1. I’m looking forward to Batman #34 as well. Be a nice change of pace after Zero Year to have one-shot issue to enjoy before the start of Endgame. Amazing Spiderman #5 is another great title and will be getting All New X-Men #30 as well, have a great new comic book day 😀

    • I’m hoping ASM #5 will rebound as the introduction of Silk left much to be desired for me. I was really excited about the character and I’m sure Slott will turn things around.

      • Yes, must admit that AMSM has not met my early expectations, I’m left wondering if this is because I enjoyed Superior Spiderman so much, and how quickly that storyline was wrapped up. Still, will stay with it for now, and hopefully it will improve.

  2. I have a bigger pull list than usual this coming week. Batman and Batgirl 34, Justice League United 4 (if this one isn’t an improvement, it’ll be my last), Red Sonja 11, Ninja Turtles 37, All New X-Men 30, Amazing Spider-Man 5, Amazing X-Men 10, Avengers Undercover 8 (while it’s still not as good as Arena, I might as well finish the last 3 issues), Captain Marvel 6, Nightcrawler 5 and X-Force 8.

It’s between Captain Marvel 6 and All New X-Men 30 for my most anticipated comics, although Batman 34 is certainly up there for the same reasons as you. TMNT 37 should be good too. By the way, I refuse to pay money to watch the Michael Bay movie that just came out.

    • First, I’m with you on JLU. This is the last issue of the arc (I believe) and if it is like the other ones I will bid farewell to the series as well.

Second, I will not pay for the new Turtles movie either. I’ve read some reviews and heard comments from other friends I know that went and it leaves much to be desired. Not the best Turtles film, not the worst Turtles film, it just is whatever. At least they aren’t aliens. 🙂

      Thanks for sharing your pull-list!
