First PlaceBatman #34
And here is the Cover of the Week by Matteo Scalera who wins this distinction for the very first time. It was a real difficult battle for top spot this week with Constantine making a real go of it but eventually I sided with this one. The lower half of the cover features a graveyard with various tombstones of all shapes and sizes. Blood specks are found splashed over them signifying that while these people are all dead their deaths may have been quite violent and possibly the result of murder. Standing at the top of the hill is a mysterious hooded individual. His positioning above all the tombstones as the proverbial king of the hill could symbolize that he might have had a hand in what transpired, that this graveyard is filled with bodies that he personally took the life from. The bright flash of white surrounding the scene makes it pop off the cover before transitioning into a large depiction of the Dark Knight himself. His cape is drawn rather artistically and the sense of urgency on his face is crafted very well. Above Batman is a crimson night sky, the harbinger of something ominous, the full moon with a few bats flying in front of it finishing off the scene. This cover is a visual spectacle for our eyes and an image that is drop-dead gorgeous. With that said, Matteo Scalera, I award you the first place crown this week. Congratulations!
So those are my favourites and it’s a clean sweep for DC as they take all five spots. What’s your personal favourite covers from the week that was? Comment below!
