On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 08/27/14

Radar

It is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Batman Beyond Universe #13
Batman Beyond Universe #13
Creative Team
Kyle Higgins and Phil Hester
Solicitation
“Superstar artist Phil Hester (GREEN ARROW) joins the Beyond team for the start of a brand-new storyline, and the answers to the big questions of what really happened between Bruce Wayne and Terry McGinnis start to be revealed here! Plus: The Phantasm Returns!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Did someone say…Phantasm? Who could this new person under the mask be? Does he/she have a connection to the original? And what type of “justice” will this new Phantasm inflict if any? One single image creates question after question and succeeds in getting me excited for the issue to come.

Dead Boy Detectives #8
Dead Boy Detectives #8
Creative Team
Toby Litt and Mark Buckingham
Solicitation

“After Charles and Crystal pledge to help one another in their investigations – no matter the cost – the duo set out to prove that Charles’s father did not murder Charles’s mother, and to find out whether Crystal really can bring her lost friend Rosa back from beyond the grave. Meanwhile, Edwin might discover the key to these mysteries – if he can break Tibetan Monk Lobsang out of a trance so deep he stopped breathing in 2012.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Read that solicitation. Go on. Now I dare you not to be interested by what you read. I dare you not to be intrigued. I certainly am.

Guardians of the Galaxy #18
Guardians of the Galaxy #18
Creative Team

Brian Michael Bendis and Ed McGuinness
Solicitation
“Original Sin Tie-In! You know you want to know how Star-Lord got back from the Cancerverse. And didn’t Nova go in there with him? Guess he’s not into the whole ‘no man left behind’ thing.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Now this is a secret that needs to be revealed. While all the other Original Sins were add-ons just for the sake of the crossover, this one comes organically to us and has been a giant question mark that has hung over the character of Star-Lord since the previous volume of Guardians ended and the character made his re-emergence. This issue is the perfect marriage between crossover and organic story progression. Who would have thought such a concept exists?

Red Lanterns #34
Red Lanterns #34
Creative Team

Charles Soule and Alessandro Vitti
Solicitation
“Guy Gardner vs. Atrocitus! The future of the Red Lanterns will be decided by the winner – and the loser faces certain death! ”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
This final fight has been building for quite some time and now the final victor shall be determined. Will it be Guy or Atrocitus that seizes control of the Red Lanterns? I can’t hardly wait to find out and I’m also heavily anticipating one knock-out, drag-out brawl to end all brawls.

Superman #34
Superman #34
Creative Team

Geoff Johns and John Romita
Solicitation
“Geoff Johns and John Romita, Jr. continue their epic Superman run with ‘THE MEN OF TOMORROW’ chapter 3! Introducing the bizarre villain known as The Machinist – the man behind the recent technological attacks on Metropolis. But what is his strange connection to Superman? Where is he from? And what does The Machinist want with The Daily Planet? Plus, the mystery behind the disaster at the Ulysses Research Lab sends Clark on an investigation that will reveal a dark secret from his past.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
A new villain! Every time a new villain debuts we can’t help compare him to the established rogue’s gallery. Will this villain be right at home next to his brothers and sisters or will he be a one arc wonder? I’m really intrigued about his strange connection to Superman and want to learn more about what motivates him in the first place. With Johns and Romita involved you know we are going to get something special indeed.
