On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 09/10/14

Radar

It is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Batgirl: Futures End #1
Batgirl Futures End #1 (3-D Motion Ed)
Creative Team
Gail Simone and Javier Garron
Solicitation
“It’s five years later, and Barbara Gordon has become Bête Noire – a.k.a. The Black Beast! Part Batman and part Bane, she leads a squad of female agents through the Gotham Underground!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Barbara Gordon, what has become of you? It’s five years later and things have drastically changed. Just who are all those other Batgirls? What would drive her to inject Bane’s Venom into her body? And what is this about a wedding I have heard in the previews? That cover gets me really excited for the possibilities.

Deadpool #34
Deadpool #34
Creative Team
Gerry Duggan and John Lucas
Solicitation

“Flashback to the 90’s as we learn the darkest secret of Deadpool’s past! See the events Deadpool’s friends learned about it Original Sin FIRST HAND!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Anytime we have an “inventory” issue the quality of this series goes up and I have a really good feeling that this latest one will make that statement remain true. The art from the previews captures the period perfectly and delving into this dark secret should have ramifications in the present day. Also, I love the jab at DC with this issue’s variant motion cover the same month DC is doing theirs! I probably won’t be lucky enough to see one but it doesn’t take away from the joke.

Death Vigil #3
Death Vigil #3 (of 8)
Creative Team

Stjepan Sejic
Solicitation
“Training day in Death Vigil! You get a magical weapon with no instruction manual and an unholy abomination from beyond the sane universe is advancing. What do you do? Helps to have an immortal and powerful dinosaur-transforming raven by your side.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
I can’t believe how much I’ve enjoyed this series so far. It has the perfect combination of gorgeous art, humor, and action which helps make it a refreshing series each and every week it comes out. I’m so glad I took the leap of faith on it starting with the first issue and I’m even happier to stick with it until this mini-series (maybe they’ll make it into an ongoing?) ends.

Edge of Spider-Verse #1
Edge of Spider-Verse #1 (of 5)
Creative Team

Fabrice Sapolsky and David Hine
Solicitation
“SPIDER-MAN NOIR RETURNS! The Peter Parker of the 1930’s finds himself not only up against Mysterio, but knee-deep in the Spider-Man event of 2014! ”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
My first introduction to Spider-Man Noir was the video game Shattered Dimensions. I really dug the vibe and the aesthetic of his world and getting to see an issue focus on him should be quite illuminating for a character I know very little about.

Hawkeye #20
Hawkeye #20
Creative Team

Matt Fraction and Annie Wu
Solicitation
“KATE-GUY! MADAME MASQUE! LOS ANGELES! EXPLOSIONS! THE END OF SUMMER VACATION! THE FINAL SHOWDOWN FOR ALL THE MARBLES! THE MARBLES ARE A METAPHOR! YOU BELONG YOU BELONG YOU BELONG YOU BELONG TO THE MERRY MARBLE MARCHING SOCIETY! This is… THE BIG ONE. Fraction and Wu and Hollingsworth too — OH MY!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Look at that SOLICITATION! It is all in CAPS! You know something AWESOME is going to happen if they used all CAPS, right? Kate’s story wrapping up makes me quite SAD but HAPPY as well as that means she’ll be back with Clint to finish off the series. Seeing one last confrontation between her and her arch-enemy Madame Masque should be something pretty SPECIAL indeed.

  1. Shattered Dimmensions introduced me to Spider-Man Noir as well. I might be picking that one up, but I have a decently sized week anyway.
I’m picking up Superman Unchained 8 (the last few issues have kind of sucked, but I might as well complete the series if I’ve made it this far), Velvet 7, Amazing Spider-Man 6, Avengers Undercover 10 (same reason as Superman Unchained), Captain Marvel 7, Magneto 9, Death of Wolverine 2, Ms. Marvel 8 and X-Force 9. Depending on how I feel, I might also pick up Nightcrawler 6 and New Warriors 9.

I’m down for the entire mini though the issue I’m looking forward to the most is #2 with Gwen as Spider-Woman. I love, love, love her costume design!

Thanks for sharing the rest of your list.

On a side note, this edition of On The Radar has had the most views ever in the entire history of the feature. Why? Well I’m happy to say that Death Vigil’s Stjepan Sejic shared the link on Twitter. Made my day! 🙂
