Retroactive: Legends of the Dark Knight 2007 & Daredevil 2006

In Retroactive I’ll take you on a visual comic cover tour of the past covering all the covers for a particular series. Each entry will cover an entire year and I’ll always have one comic from DC and one comic from Marvel. At the end of each edition of Retroactive I’ll select my overall favourite cover for that year for each series. Last time on Retroactive we covered Legends of the Dark Knight 2006 and Daredevil 2005. If you need a refresher, just click HERE. Below you’ll find the two series that I’m currently covering. Click on that specific logo to be instantly taken directly to that series. The last section is reserved for my Top Picks from each year. Click the logo or travel to the third page to view them.

  1. I really like Daredevil # 88.
First of all, the tagline is so enticing that it deserves the gold medal alone. “The secret life of Franklin Nelson”: what could it mean? We see Foggy as the mildest person on earth, so it is deeply shocking to know that he could have lived a double life.
And then you look under the tagline, and you notice that Foggy is hiding himself. This detail is even more shocking, because it makes you understand that he must have done something wrong for real: if that tagline were just a stunt, he wouldn’t behave that way.
Thirdly, I love the presence of a raging Daredevil on the left side of the cover. Is he angry with his friend because he discovered Foggy’s real nature? Is he angry with the people who are accusing mister Nelson? You must open the book to find it out… and when a cover makes you want to do that, you know the cover artist made a very good job.
As for Bruce, I completely agree with the cover you chose. It is one of the best Bat – covers you’ve ever uploaded.

You summed up this cover’s brilliance perfectly, so much in fact that I really can’t add anything else. There were a lot of other brilliant covers as well that deserve a spotlight shone their way including: #82 (Daredevil behind bars), #83 (Foggy Nelson’s tombstone?), #89 (Daredevil swinging through the night, a damsel in his arms), and #90’s beautiful yet melancholy Paris scene. If I had to round out my Top 3 it would be 2nd: #90 and 3rd: #88.

Wow! High praise indeed. The first volume ends with all three of us in agreement. Only one more edition of LOTDK left…

Thanks, as always, for sharing your selections!

  2. I had to go for Legends of the Dark Knight #214 as well, the last cover in this volume, it really end the series with a terrific cover. The blood red color works so well and really highlights the action Batman swoops into view caught in the scope of the sniper. Great! Daredevil Vol 2 #87 get me vote here, with Daredevil Vs Daredevil as they plummet from a skyscraper, locked in mortal combat. Brilliant! Great Retroactive! Have a nice weekend 😀

    • The awesomeness of LOTDK #214 can not be overstated. An awesome image that marks the end of the first volume. Only one more edition left. As for Daredevil your choice is an intriguing and eye-catching cover in a simply pack line-up.

Thanks for providing your choices. And I hope your weekend is excellent as well. 🙂
