On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 09/17/14

It is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

All-New X-Men #32
All New X-Men #32
Creative Team
Brian Michael Bendis and Mahmud A. Asrar
“Dimension-hopping is something of an X-Men rite of passage and it’s about time the All-New X-Men took the plunge! I guess you don’t always have to travel Miles away to visit a new place . . . But will the web they find themselves tangled in Ultimately bring about their end?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The All-New X-Men crossing over into the Ultimate Universe is truly an amazing sight that needs to be seen. I can just imagine their reactions right now to this twisted world that is similar yet so different from the one they hail from. With Bendis at the helm we are guaranteed not just one, not just two, but at least three awesome memorable moments that has the potential to make this issue the best book of the week.

Batman Eternal #24
Batman Eternal #24
Creative Team

Scott Snyder and Andy Clarke

“Spoiler goes head to head with her father, the deadly Cluemaster–and the fate of Gotham City hangs in the balance!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
I’m an unabashed fan of all things Stephanie Brown so the idea of having an entire issue focussed on her has me absolutely giddy. This latest chapter in the Batman Eternal saga was made for people like me.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 #7
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Ten #7 (Rebekah Isaacs variant cover)
Creative Team

Christos Gage, Nicholas Brendon, and Rebekah Isaacs
“As Spike and Xander bond-while also seriously getting on each other’s nerves-they are tempted to start writing some rules of their own in the book of magical laws . . . concerning Buffy and Dawn!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
I spoke of memorable moments when I was discussing All-New X-Men and the same can be said for this issue. Think about it: Spike and Xander as roommates. That right there is comedy gold and the creative team is going to get every ounce out of this new dynamic.

Edge of Spider-Verse #2
Edge of Spider-Verse #2 (of 5)
Creative Team

Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez
“GWEN STACY: SPIDER-WOMAN! In one universe, it wasn’t Peter Parker bitten by the radioactive Spider, but Gwen Stacy! She’s smart, charming and can lift a car– Just don’t tell her Police Chief father! How is she involved in Spider-Verse? Seeds of Amazing Spider-Man #9 are planted here!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Of all the Edge of Spider-Verse focal point issues this was the one I was looking forward to the most above all the rest. Not only does it feature a great concept (Gwen Stacy as Spider-Woman) but it also features one fantastic costume design that is just plain gorgeous. I’m crossing my fingers that the story matches the premise but overall I have a really good feeling about this one.

TMNT: Turtles In Time #4
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Turtles In Time #4 (of 4)
Creative Team

Paul Allor and Dan Duncan
“The Turtles’ time-travelling adventure comes to its epic conclusion in the not-too-distant future! The Turtles are shocked to discover a Manhattan greatly changed from the home they know. Surprising enemies and allies await them, in addition to grave decisions. Will they be able to make it back home AND save the future?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Dan Duncan drawing the Ninja Turtles again. He kicked off IDW’s ongoing series in style and getting to see him lend his abilities to this issue is going to be excellent. Add that to the fact that the final issue of this mini-series is going to travel to the future and they have me hook, line, and sinker!

  1. My list for this week is currently small, with just All New X-Factor 14, All New X-Men 32, Edge of the Spider-Verse 2, Superior Spider-Man 33 and Uncanny X-Men 26 on my list. I might pick up a few extras for the sake of it. Of those 5, All New X-Men is my most anticipated, for pretty much the same reason that you’re anticipating it. And of course, even if it won’t happen in this week’s issue, Bendis has pretty much confirmed on his Tumblr that X-23 will meet Jimmy Hudson, and that should be interesting. The meeting between Jean Grey and Miles Morales should be good too. Edge of the Spider-Verse 2 is a runner up, because Gwen as Spider-Woman is kind of genius.

By the way, do you know how long Batman Eternal is going for? It’s the kind of series I’d rather wait until it’s over before I read it in collected format, and I’ve heard its very good so far.

    • Thanks for sharing your list. I was unaware about the whole X-23/Hudson interaction that was going to happen but am greatly looking forward to it. As for your question: Batman Eternal is going to last an entire year which means 52 issues of awesomeness. 🙂
