On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 10/08/14

Radar

It is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Amazing Spider-Man #7
Amazing Spider-Man #7
Creative Team
Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos
Solicitation
“Peer over the EDGE OF SPIDER-VERSE! Spidey teams up with Ms. Marvel in a high-flying (stepping in Kamala’s case) adventure! Who is Spider-UK and what does he have to do with SPIDER-VERSE?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
I’ve really enjoyed the adventures of Kamala in the pages of her series Ms. Marvel. Spider-Man is my favourite Marvel character ever. So the prospect of seeing these two great characters interact with one another is too good to pass up. Action, adventure, and a healthy dose of comedy makes this a can’t miss team-up!

Batgirl #35
Batgirl #35
Creative Team

Cameron Stewart, Brenden Fletcher, and Babs Tarr
Solicitation

“Barbara Gordon is no stranger to dusting herself off when disaster strikes… so when a fire destroys everything she owned, she spots the opportunity for a new lease on life – and seizes it! Following the rest of Gotham’s young adults to the hip border district of Burnside, Barbara sets about building an all-new Batgirl… and discovers all-new threats preying on her peers! It’s a re-invention of Batgirl from the boots up, by the incredible creative team of Cameron Stewart (BATMAN INC.), Brenden Fletcher (WEDNESDAY COMICS), and rising star Babs Tarr!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Ever since I saw the redesigned Batgirl I fell in love. A fresh start following an acclaimed run by Simone is going to be a mighty big task for this new creative team to handle but from the preview pages I’m pretty optimistic. The art looks fantastic and I can’t wait to see where young Barbara Gordon goes next.

“From the superstar creative team that brought you a new start to the Caped Crusader comes the story that could end him. Be there in October for the biggest, deadliest and most epic story yet from writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo – ‘Batman: Endgame’ begins here!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Batman. Snyder. Capullo. New Arc. Enough Said.

Earth 2: Worlds End #1
Earth 2 Worlds End #1
Creative Team

Daniel H. Wilson and Ardian Syaf
Solicitation
“Daniel H. Wilson, New York Times best-selling author of Robopocalypse and Robogenesis, delves into the world of EARTH 2 for the start of a new weekly series that will see the origins of a world much like the New 52 Earth, but yet so different. A world that saw its greatest heroes die – and new ones take their places. A world where Superman became it’ greatest villain, and a man named Zod seeks to save it, along with Batman, Green Lantern, The Flash and other heroes. A world they can only save from the forces of Apokolips through great personal sacrifice! Death and destruction will follow each week, and you’ll never know who will live and who will die! It all begins with this extra-sized debut issue! ”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
NEW SERIES ALERT! So far I’m one for two as it pertains to weekly DC series: Batman Eternal is enthralling but Futures End was the complete opposite. This series acts as the tie-breaker and really makes me wonder which side of the fence it will be on with this debut issue going a long way in determining just that. My fingers are crossed!

Rocket Raccoon #4
Rocket Raccoon #4
Creative Team

Skottie Young
Solicitation
“THE FUR FLIES! Rocket and his dangerous doppelgänger face off! BETRAYED! Ensnared like some kind of terrestrial rodent, Rocket comes face-to-face-to-face-to-face-to-face with a few of the folks who want him dead! Can the everyone’s favorite gunslingin’ Guardian of the Galaxy make it out alive and clear his name?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The battle we’ve been waiting for has arrived: Rocket VS Faux-Rocket. Who will emerge victorious and how will Rocket contend with his League of Evil Exes? The awesomeness of Skottie Young marches on with good times to be had by all.

  1. My most anticipted book is between Batgirl 35, Rocket Raccoon 4 and Captain Marvel 8. Having now caught up with Death Vigil, I’m picking up number 4. Also picking up Batman 35, Sex Criminals 8, Amazing Spider-Man 7, Nightcrawler 7 and X-Force 10. I’m undecided on Justice League United 5. The first storyline didn’t impress me, but I’m willing to give this one more issue to see if the second arc is an improvement.

Avengers and X-men Axis hasn’t really interested me yet, so I’ll probably do what I did with Infinity and might with Original Sin: wait for the event to finish and either grab the trade or find the issues bundled together for a discounted price.

    • Death Vigil has really impressed me so far. I came into the first issue not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. I’m crossing my fingers that this book is successfully and hopefully becomes an ongoing.

As for AXIS, Original Sin left me severely disappointed so I’ll see what the first issue is like. This is one of those cases where I’m more looking forward to the tie-in (the Hobgoblin mini) than the main title.

Thanks for sharing your pull-list. 🙂

  2. Looking forward to ASM #7 as well, should be a great team up issue, and of course Batman #35, I’m sure Endgame is going to be another epic storyline. Like you, I wasn’t that keen of Future’s End either, but will check out World’s End because of the Earth 2 setting. I’m really enjoying Batman Eternal as well, so its going to take a lot to convince me to go for another weekly series, so the first issue of World’s End will have to deliver. Have a great new comic book day 😀

    • I really think DC is taking a big risk having three weekly series come out at the same time. People don’t have a money tree growing in their backyard and are going to have to make some tough choices. Hopefully you and I will be rewarded with our faith in this new weekly though. Have a great NCBD and thanks for sharing your highlights!
