Even in this case we have an artist who wins the gold medal hands down: Stanley Lau.
First of all, the lighting and the use of computer graphics are exceptional: when you look at something drawn by Stanley Lau, you always have the feel he must have spent a lot of time on it, so the efforts he clearly made to give us these gems deserve the gold medal alone.
Secondly, exactly like Candra, he’s good at drawing sexy women, so good that even some characters who usually aren’t seen as sexy, like Gwen Stacy, become sex bombs if they are drawn by him.
Thirdly, the Captain America drawing has an epic vibe I absolutely adore. Also, the background is a watercolour: as you know, I love this technique, so I give Stanley Lau the gold medal without hesitation.
This is a hard one. I’m a big fan of Dan Schoening’s art and he is a great guy to meet in person as well. Stanley Lau is fantastic and I love his pieces of art where he incorporates the characters with a magazine backdrop. I covered those images when I first highlighted him way back but if you never saw them I encourage you to check out his DeviantArt page. Finally, Mike Mahle produces some stellar pieces of work that are sleek and retro. In the end, I have to give the slight edge to Lau over Schoening though it is so, so close.
