First Place
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 10 #8
And here is the Cover of the Week by Steve Morris who wins this distinction for the second time. This cover is like a Halloween treat come early, an image that could not be contained on simply the front but had to take the back cover as well to make a beautiful two-page spread. Buffy stands at the ready, her scythe in hand, primed to leap into battle at a moment’s notice. Behind her are various trick-or-treaters dressed as ghosts, devils, and witches with a cat and clown mixed in for good measure. They are dancing about taking in All Hallows’ Eve as they make their way toward the towering tentacled beast in the distance. We also have other classic Halloween elements including bats, a haunted house, an owl, the moon, a twisted tree, and jack o’lanterns. Also found are various tombstones etched with the names of some of the characters who have perished over the course of the show and comic such as Warren Mears, Rupert Giles, and Buffy herself. That in itself would make for a stellar image but then you have to admire the gorgeous colouring technique that utilizes a style similar to the wrapping found on a certain molasses Halloween treat. It makes for a nice connection while adding a unique visual approach overall. With that said, Steve Morris, I award you the first place crown this week. Congratulations!

So those are my favourites and it’s a three-to-one-to-one victory for DC over Marvel and the Independents though the Independents did manage to snag the first place prize. What are your personal favourite covers from the week that was? Comment below!
Bronze medal for Harley Quinn # 11, because of my passion for Power Girl.
Silver medal for Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 10 #8, because I love the pop – art – like colouring.
Gold medal for The Multiversity: The Just # 1, because the idea of laying out the page as if it were a tabloid cover is a stroke of genius that deserves the first prize alone. Not to mention all the question this image raises: who is Sasha Norman? How did Lex Luthor get the keys of the Bat – cave? What happened to the friendship between Batman and Superman?
“Bronze medal for Harley Quinn # 11, because of my passion for Power Girl.”
I especially love the disclaimer at the bottom of this cover: “PLEASE NOTE: This comic contains no actual super-heroics. If you are looking for that, may we suggest you pick up the book to the right of this one.” Simply awesome!
Thanks for sharing your Rankings.
“I especially love the disclaimer at the bottom of this cover” Nice catch GothamRogue, that had passed me by! Now I’m even more convinced this cover deserves the bronze medal.
“Thanks for sharing your Rankings.” Thank you as well for your reply! : )
