On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 11/19/14

Radar It is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Amazing Spider-Man #10
Amazing Spider-Man #10

“SPIDER-VERSE PART 2! A spider-army is gathering to fight Morlun and his deadly family, but who will lead them? Why, only the greatest spider-hero of all, THE SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN. Our universe’s AMAZING SPIDER-MAN has an issue with that. GUEST STARRING- MILES MORALES!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The Amazing Spider-Man, the Superior Spider-Man, and Ultimate Spider-Man all in one book? The Amazing Spider-Man confronting the Superior Spider-Man over leadership of the Spider Corps? Oh yeah, this is going to be something truly spectacular! Or is it sensational?

Elektra #8
Elektra #8

Creative Team
Haden Blackman and Michael Del Mundo
Solicitation

“Elektra takes on an entire S.H.I.E.L.D. facility singlehandedly! What could be important enough for Elektra to pit herself against the most advanced intelligence agency in the Marvel Universe? How about coming face-to-face with the man who killed her and returning the favor?!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Elektra infiltrating a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility should produce countless amazing moments that will get our adrenaline pumping but what I’m really looking forward to the most is the meeting between her and Bullseye. How will this encounter turn out? Will one of them not make it out alive? I’m on the edge of my seat. ________________________________________________________

Harley Quinn #12
Harley Quinn #12
Creative Team

Amanda Conner and Chad Hardin
Solicitation
“Harley’s over the moon about teaming up with the all-powerful Power Girl…but it won’t take X-ray vision for Power Girl to see that something’s not right with her new best bud!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The first part of the adventures of DC’s hottest new superhero team was great and I expect more of the same from this one. If you are looking for some humour and some action from your comics then this fits the bill nicely. My main question: how long can Harley keep this charade going with Power Girl before she is found out? ________________________________________________________

Lumberjanes #8
Lumberjanes #8 (of 8)
Creative Team

Grace Ellis, Brooke A. Allen, and Noelle Stevenson
Solicitation
“This crazy war between Apollo and Artemis finally reaches its peak and it’s up to the Lumberjanes to save their camp from this crazy sibling rivalry. All questions are finally answered and the scouts learn the true importance of trust and friendship.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The end has come. Everything that has been building up since the first issue will be resolved here in this final chapter of this title. Originally it was only going to be an eight-issue mini but the sheer awesomeness and downright fun nature of this comic managed to catch on with many others and it was upgraded to an ongoing. Thank goodness for that because I’m a Lumberjanes fan and proud of it!

  1. My most anticipated of the week is between Amazing Spider-Man 10 and Uncanny X-men 28, with Black Widow 12 a close third. Also picking up Supergirl 36, Witchblade 179, Guardians of the Galaxy 21, Magneto 12 and X-Force 12.

I’m not sure whether I’m picking up Storm 5 or not, and if I do, it will probably be my last issue. It just hasn’t been all that good so far. Also considering dropping Guardians of the Galaxy. Some individual issues have been good, but overall it’s been mediocre (Bendis’s X-Men books are so much better). I’m giving it one more storyline, and then I might drop it after the Black Vortex crossover. Since I’m already reading all but 1 title in the crossover, I might as well pick up the whole thing.

    • I only subscribe to three series of the Black Vortex event so I’m crossing my fingers that I don’t get too lost.

It is a real shame that Storm is disappointing you. What is not doing it for you? The art? The story? Something else?

As for GOTG, the title has its ups and downs for sure with some arcs standing out compared to others. Next up is the planet of the Symbiotes so if you’re a fan of Venom you should enjoy it. If not….

Thanks for sharing your pull-list! 🙂

      • I just don’t think the story is all that strong in Storm. Some of the issues have had decent character moments, but in 5 issues (including today’s), she’s never faced any real danger, and the series kind of feels directionless.

As for Black Vortex, most of the setup is supposed to be in Legendary Star Lord, so you’ll probably be fine if you read that.

That’s too bad. You would have thought the writer would have had a better premise going in. Makes you wonder what Marvel saw in green-lighting it. Did they just do it for the sake of diversity over story? I hope not.

“As for Black Vortex, most of the setup is supposed to be in Legendary Star Lord, so you’ll probably be fine if you read that.”
Good. One of the three I get is Legendary Star-Lord so that is awesome news. Thanks. 🙂

  2. Elektra # 8 is a wonderful cover.
The cover for Harley Quinn # 12 is great as well. No surprise, because this series constantly gets a medal in my personal Covers of the Week ranking.

    • Amanda Conner is an amazing talent and I’ve never been disappointed by any piece of art she produces. As for Elektra, the covers on this entire series have been breathtaking. Too bad that there are only 3 issues after this one before the series is cancelled.
