On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 12/03/14

Radar It is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Fairy Quest: Outcasts #2

“After finding the map maker, Red and Woof must venture through the land of Oz and Wonderland to find their end to fiction and path to reality. On the yellow brick road, there are more dangers than just lions, tigers, and bears . . .”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
This final chapter of this two-issue mini sure looks to be covering a lot of ground. Oz? Wonderland? A path to reality? How in the world can one single issue contain so much? Is it even possible? It is when you are as terrific as this series is!

Gotham Academy #3

Solicitation

“If you thought getting detention was a pain, just wait till you see detention Gotham Academy-style!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
“You have no idea who you’re dealing with. After all… I am my mother’s daughter.” That line was uttered by the mysterious Olive in the previous issue. Having a character we know so little about starring in a series like this is truly exhilarating. Each issue looks to peel back another layer, offer another hint, and feature another creative cameo. Add that to some fantastic art and you get a series that is fresh and one everyone should take a chance on.

Green Lantern #37
Green Lantern #37
Creative Team

Robert Venditti and Francis Portela
Solicitation
“‘Godhead,’ act 3, part 1: Hal Jordan has to enlist the help of one of his greatest foes, Black Hand, or else watch the universe fall before the growing army of the New Gods! But getting Black Hand to help and getting him to help the way you need him to are two very different things.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Hal Jordan seeking the aid of Black Hand? How in the world is he going to pull this off? Oh this cannot end well…and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out.

Secret Six #1

Gail Simone and Dale Eaglesham
Solicitation
“Gail Simone is back with the NEW 52 debut of the fan-favorite team – THE SECRET SIX! Six strangers are brought together under mysterious circumstances for an explosive first issue that will leave everyone asking, ‘What is the Secret?'”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
NEW SERIES ALERT! Gail Simone’s original run on Secret Six was so brilliant, so enjoyable, that mere words does not do it justice. The team was perfect, the characterization was spot-on, and the story was engaging. Can she possibly live up to her former work with this new team consisting of some old favourites and new additions? I’m crossing my fingers that the answer to that is a resounding YES. In Simone we trust.

Valiant Sized Quantum & Woody #1
Valiant Sized Quantum & Woody #1
Creative Team

Tim Siedell, James Asmus, and Pere Perez
Solicitation
“Crisis of the infinite Woody-verse! Tim Siedell (Star Wars: Darth Vader) and Harvey Award-nominees James Asmus (The Delinquents) and Pere Pérez (Archer & Armstrong) launch the world’s worst superhero team into an overloaded adventure that only a VALIANT-SIZE 40-page giant could possibly handle! An asteroid is about to destroy the planet, but with Quantum and Woody at the front line of an international team of heroes, everything’s sure to…oh sweet mercy, we’re doomed. And that’s BEFORE Thomas Edison opens a rip in the space-time continuum and lets in the mirror-image Woody of the alterna-verse!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Filled with so much awesomeness that a mere 22 pages could not contain it, this 40 page special looks to hold nothing back. An asteroid about to destroy the planet? An international team of heroes? A rip in the space-time continuum? And a Woody from an alternate dimension? How can that not pique your interest?

  1. Once again the Gotham Academy penciller gave us a very good cover. Probably he’ll get my gold medal for the 2nd consecutive time when this image comes out in a Covers of the Week post.

  2. This coming month is really weird for my pull list. This week I’m only picking up 3 for sure: Gotham Academy 3, All New X-Factor 17 and Legendary Star Lord 6. Because my list is so small I’m strongly considering Vampirella 7 (I enjoyed the first 6 issues, just not enough to be sure if I’ll stick with it or not) and Angela: Asgard’s Assassin 1 (not huge on the character, but Kieron Gillen is almost always good).

Next week will be huge, with at least 14 comics on my pull list. And then Wednesday is on Christmas Eve, and because I work retail, it’s quite possible I won’t be able to pick up any of them until at least Saturday. By that point, it won’t even be worth doing any full reviews.

    • I’m very interested to hear what you think about the Angela title as I am on the fence as well. On one hand I like Gillen, on the other I have so many other titles and Angela really doesn’t interest me very much. Decisions, decisions…

As for your uneven pull-list, December is always a weird month as hardly anything comes out the Wednesday of Christmas and thusly it makes the other weeks that much larger to compensate.

Thanks for sharing your pull-list! It is much appreciated. And have an excellent NCBD. 🙂
