On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 12/17/14

Radar It is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Batman #37
Batman #37
Creative Team
Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo
Solicitation
“The ultra top-secret Batman arc known only as ‘Endgame,’ continues – it’s a story arc so steeped in mystery, all we can tell you is the title!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
I’m still picking my jaw off the floor from the previous issue’s surprising reveal. I mean seriously, did anyone see that coming? It is reasons like that which make this series my #1 DC title of their entire line and I am on the edge of my seat to see where Snyder and Capullo take us next.

Lumberjanes #9
Lumberjanes #9
Creative Team

Noelle Stevenson, Shannon Watters, and Others
Solicitation

“In order to earn the coveted Gimme S’more badge, the Lumberjanes set out on a backpacking trip in the deep, dark woods. But the woods aren’t so scary anymore, now that the Lumberjanes have kicked, punched, and befriended all the fearsome magical monsters out there, so they set out to find the one thing that can still scare them all: campfire stories!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
A whole bevy of artists flock to the title with this issue to better illustrate each girl’s campfire story. It is so wonderful to see that this series was so successful that it went from a mini to an ongoing and that reason alone has restored my faith in humanity. In all seriousness, this issue will be anything but serious and that is a big reason why I’ve fallen in love with this series to begin with: it takes itself lightly but adds some deep emotional context as well. A perfect jumping on point for those not educated on Lumberjanes lore? I think so indeed!

Ms. Marvel #10
Ms Marvel #10
Creative Team

C. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphona
Solicitation
“Kamala bands together with some unlikely heroes against the maniacal Inventor. But has she taken on more than she can handle? Find out why Ms. Marvel is the best new super hero of the year!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
A strong and interesting main character? Check. Terrific moments backed with witty dialogue? Check. A group of unlikely heroes teaming up? Check. An evil villain? Check. An awesome time to be had by all who buy the issue? Hell yes!

The Multiversity: Thunderworld #1
Multiversity Thunderworld #1
Creative Team

Grant Morrison and Cameron Stewart
Solicitation
“The fifth chapter of the greatest adventure in DC Comics history is here! Acclaimed for their collaborations on BATMAN AND ROBIN, SEAGUY and SEVEN SOLDIERS OF VICTORY: THE MANHATTAN GUARDIAN, superstar writer Grant Morrison and renowned artist Cameron Stewart deliver some magic to THE MULTIVERSITY with a breathtaking journey to Earth-5 – A.K.A. Thunderworld! With a single word, Billy Batson transforms from boy reporter for Whiz Media into the world’s Mightiest Mortal – Captain Marvel! Along with the other members of the Marvel Family, Captain Marvel battles dastardly villains like Mr. Mind and the Monster Society of Evil! But now, his greatest foe has attacked the Rock of Eternity – the source of the Marvel Family’s power – and it could mean the end of reality as we know it! What impossible villains are Sivana teaming up with who could spell doom for the Multiverse? From where did Sivana’s children get their newfound super powers? And what does the appearance of one mysterious comic book mean for the heroes of Thunderworld? Find out all that and more in this exciting issue that acts as chapter five of THE MULTIVERSITY.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
That Pax Americana issue was amazing! So amazing in fact that to top it seems neigh impossible. Of all the solicited issues of this series though, this had to be the one I was looking forward to the most on a pure anticipation level. Revisiting some classic Captain Marvel is nothing short of excellent news. Shazam who? Captain Marvel all the way!

The Wicked + The Divine #6
Wicked & Divine #6 (Cover A)
Creative Team

Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie
Solicitation
“THE FAUST ACT is over. Welcome to FANDEMONIUM. The second arc of THE WICKED + THE DIVINE begins in its traditional manner (i.e. a ludicrous pun.) We’d say something like ‘nothing will ever be the same again’ but if you think about it, you can say that about literally everything, ever. Er…also some comic story. Probably.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
A new arc, a new status quo for our main character, and more twists and turns sure to be uncovered. This series keeps getting better and better with each subsequent issue as we become more and more immersed and invested in the world. Six issues in and I call that a rousing success.

  1. Yeah, I’m excited for Batman 37 too. Also anticipated is All New X-Men 34, Ms. Marvel 10 and Captain Marvel 10. Another decently sized week for me, with Scarlet Spiders 2, She Hulk 11, Black Widow 13, Guardians of the Galaxy 22, Red Sonja 14 and Supergirl 37.

    • All-New X-Men just missed my Top 5 for the week. Elsewhere, I enjoyed the first issue of Scarlet Spiders more than I thought I would so that was a really pleasant surprise and made me pumped for the remaining two issues. Thanks for sharing your pull-list and have an awesome New Comic Book Day!
