On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 01/28/15

Radar Each week, countless titles see release from all the various comic companies out there. Some will be good, some will be bad, and some will be downright excellent. Of course, we don’t know which will be which but what we do know is which are our most anticipated. With that said, it is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo
Solicitation
“‘Endgame’ part 4. The Joker is back! This time, no more funny stuff. And in the backup story, five Arkham Asylum escapees share their encounters with The Joker!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Anytime Snyder and Capullo release a new chapter of their legendary run, it always ranks really high on my most anticipated list. This week is no exception as this “Endgame” arc has really stepped it up from their “Zero Year” tale. Witnessing the next encounter between the Dark Knight and the Clown Prince of Crime is a can’t miss event indeed!

Flash Gordon #8

Jeff Parker and Evan Shaner
Solicitation

“This is the end. The final issue by super-team Jeff Parker, Evan Shaner, and Jordie Bellaire! Flash, Dale, and Zarkov may have finally figured out a way back to Earth! But will Ming’s forces follow? Are their adventures over? Find out in the astounding final issue of Flash Gordon!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
It is with a heavy heart that I bid farewell to yet another series from my pull-list. For the past seven issues and two specials, Parker and Shaner created something truly special, a series that ended all too quick. It found the right mix of action, humor, and drama combined with stellar art to craft a run on Flash that reinvigorated my interest in the character. How will their epic end?

Quantum & Woody Must Die #1
Quantum & Woody Must Die #1 (of 4)
Creative Team

James Asmus and Steve Lieber
Solicitation
“Multiple Harvey Award nominee James Asmus (Quantum and Woody, The Delinquents) and Eisner Award-winning artist Steve Lieber (The Superior Foes of Spider-Man) are here to bring the most talked-about, most awardnot-winning-est heroes in comics to a whole new high! Unfortunately, there are a bunch of people that would like to kill them up there. They came. They saw. They pissed off a whole lotta folks. And now a team of mystery vigilantes has singled out the world’s worst superhero team for complete and utter destruction. The first target: their minds! But who are these all-new enemies? Are Quantum and Woody hitting it off with a sexy duo of cat burglars? And, dear god, what have they done to the goat? Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Sex Criminals isn’t the only comic that can quote Queen, comics fans – here come Quantum and Woody! (Or so they think! [Trippy, right?!])”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The Delinquents series was okay but nothing beats it when the focus is solely on Quantum and Woody…and the Goat. Every time I buy an issue I know I’m in for a good time. Whether it be zany ideas, chuckle inducing moments, or all-out action, Asmus has delivered on a consistent basis. Now that he is being joined by the talented Steve Lieber, it takes this series to another level of awesomeness.

Thor #4

Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman
Solicitation
“The Odinson is back. And he clearly doesn’t like that someone else is holding his hammer. You know what that means, right? THOR VS. THOR!!!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
It is Thor VS Thor! Do I really need to say anything else?

Uncanny Avengers #1
Uncanny Avengers #1
Creative Team

Rick Remender and Daniel Acuña
Solicitation
“COUNTER-EVOLUTIONARY PART 1. From the ashes of AXIS an all-new, all different Avengers assemble! The tragedy at the end of AXIS has left the Uncanny Avengers vulnerable, and someone is taking advantage of it. One of the Avengers oldest foes returns with a terrible secret that will, all hyperbole aside, shatter the lives of two members of the squad. What is Counter-Earth? What terrible secrets does it house?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
NEW SERIES ALERT! Well, sort of. The time has come for the next volume of Remender’s Avengers series that promises a new and different line-up. I’m unsure if I’m going to continue with this series going forward and I’m using this initial issue to act as my deciding factor. It is because of this uncertainty that it has my interest levels piqued.

  1. Yeah, considering how amazingly good Batman 37 was, it’s hard to pick any other comic as the most anticipated title of the week. Also among my most anticipated titles are Uncanny X-Men 30 and Thor 4.
I’m also picking up Gotham Academy 4, Bitch Planet 2, Death Vigil 6, Amazing X-Men 16 and Wolverines 4. I’m also picking up Spider-Man 2099 8, but it will probably be my last issue. I’m enjoying it, but I’m actually starting to run out of room to store comics, at least until I can sell the ones I don’t want to keep and it is low on my priority list.

    • I’m also on the fence about Spider-Man 2099 but I have a feeling it will be ending soon when Secret Wars kicks off and the world is changed afterwards. As for Death Vigil, the sales do not do justice to the quality of the series leaving a second volume in doubt. That is a real shame.

Thanks for sharing your pull-list for the week!

  2. Really looking forward to Batman #38, Endgame has been so exciting and scary. Great to have the Joker back again, and this time he seems even more evil than ever before. Can’t wait to see what happen next.
