On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 02/25/15

Radar Each week, countless titles see release from all the various comic companies out there. Some will be good, some will be bad, and some will be downright excellent. Of course, we don’t know which will be which but what we do know is which are our most anticipated. With that said, it is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

“‘Endgame’ part 5. The Joker is back! The penultimate issue of the Clown Prince of Crime’s horrifying return! Plus, in the backup story, the inmates and Mahreen finally learn the truth about The Joker!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
While I for one am the first to admit that I’m not a fan of Joker’s new origin, if indeed it isn’t some big swerve, it still doesn’t diminish my excitement for this “Endgame” arc as a whole. In Snyder and Capullo we trust!

“This month’s assignment: Uncover the hideous secrets of Gotham Academy’s North Hall! Also: smooching?!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Do you like a mystery? This series has one. Do you like awesome art? This series has it. Do you like teenage drama? This series has it. Do you like excellent comics? This series is one. Need I say more?

Secret Avengers #13

“‘DEATH TO THE BULLIES’ M.O.D.O.K. down. Something is up. Trust M.O.D.O.K. Most explosions you have ever seen in a Marvel comic! Maybe. We’re not entirely sure. But we do have an explosion-o-meter. SECRET AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you: M.O.D.O.K. is a Secret Avenger. That is just one example of the type of storytelling that enables this series to be the very best Avengers title on the market today. Zany ideas, terrific dialogue, and fantastic art causes every issue to be a highly enjoyable affair. The simple truth is that this series is ratcheting everything up as it races to its conclusion, a fact that is both sad and yet rewarding at the same time.

Spider-Gwen #1

“SPIDER-GWEN SPINS INTO HER OWN SERIES! BECAUSE YOU DEMANDED IT! The breakout hit of the biggest Spider-Event of the century is taking comic shops by storm this winter with her own new ongoing series–SPIDER-GWEN! Gwen Stacy is Spider-Woman, but you knew that already. What you DON’T know is what friends and foes are waiting for her in the aftermath of Spider-Verse! From the fan-favorite creative team that brought you Spider-Gwen’s origin story in EDGE OF SPIDER-VERSE, Jason Latour and Robbie Rodriguez! ”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
NEW SERIES ALERT! Ever since I saw the initial drawing of the character I was engaged. The costume design is nothing short of brilliant and the concept is both innovative and made others think why didn’t I think of it sooner. Over the course of her debut and her time in Spider-Verse, my affection for the character has grown and now the time has come for her to get her own series, something that some characters wait years or even decades for if they ever get a series period. Time will only tell if fandom’s love affair with the character will continue but I have a really good feeling that may in fact be so.

Thor Annual #1
Thor Annual #1

Solicitation
“Three stories featuring three Thors! Wrestling superstar CM Punk and Rob Guillory (Chew) on Young Thor’s idea for how to prove himself worthy of Mjolnir: a drinking competition! Noelle Stevenson (Lumberjanes) and Marguerite Sauvage tell a tale of the new Thor! And Jason Aaron on the Girls of Thunder’s quest to find the perfect birthday present for their grandfather, King Thor! How about a new Garden of Eden?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Not one, not two, but three tales? Getting to see Guillory play in the Marvel Universe is worth the price of admission alone but add that to CM Punk’s Marvel debut, the dream tandem of Stevenson and Sauvage, and the brilliant Jason Aaron and you get an Annual that is not only jam-packed but well worth the money indeed, a fact some Annuals cannot say.

  1. Really looking forward to Batman #39 its been a great story, very scary & mysterious. I’m a little concerned its making the Joker seem too powerful, but have a feeling this penultimate issue will set things up for a brilliant finale!

  2. My most anticipated list is very similar to yours (Batman, Gotham Academy, Spider-Gwen), although Batman 39 is probably my most anticipated title.

Also picking up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 43, All New X-Men 38, Amazing Spider-Man 15, Amazing X-Men 17 and Wolverines 8.

    • All but two comics are shared across both of our pull lists. Definitely speaks volumes to their quality. Also, on a side note, I received your She-Hulk e-mail. Awesome read! I’m going to promote it on this week’s Between The Continuity and release it later on next week. Thanks again. 🙂
