On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 03/11/15

Radar Each week, countless titles see release from all the various comic companies out there. Some will be good, some will be bad, and some will be downright excellent. Of course, we don’t know which will be which but what we do know is which are our most anticipated. With that said, it is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Green Lantern Corps #40

Solicitation
“John Stewart comes face to face with the failure that has haunted and defined him for years – the destruction of the planet Xanshi. Will he find salvation as history threatens to repeat itself? Plus, a moment that will forever alter the course of the Corps in a final issue that had to be extra-sized! ”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The grand conclusion of the Green Lantern Corps looks to go out with a bang. If the solicitation is to be trusted, this finale looks to not only put John Stewart through the wringer but change the Lantern-verse forever. Plus it is extra sized because its awesomeness could not be contained in only 20 pages!

C. Willow Wilson and Takeshi Miyazawa
Solicitation

“A mysterious stranger arrives in Jersey City! Is it possible Kamala Khan is about to develop . . . a CRUSH?! Yes. It is. DRAMA! INTRIGUE! ROMANCE! SUSPENSE! PUNCHING THINGS! ”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Love is in the air. Who has drawn the eye of Kamala? Will the feeling be mutual? Oh and don’t forget that there will be things to be punched! Now honestly, how can you resist this comic?

Silver Surfer #10
Silver Surfer #10

Dan Slott and Michael Allred
Solicitation
“The climax to THE Silver Surfer/Galactus Story for the 21st Century! Witness the soul of the Silver Surfer laid bare in a cosmic clash unlike any you have ever seen! A tale of hope and heroes– of triumph and tragedy– as only can be told in one of the Mightiest Marvel Comics of them all! If you weren’t a true believer before SILVER SURFER #10, you WILL BE AFTER!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Last issue left us with one fantastic cliffhanger. Battling the Devourer of Worlds was tough enough before but how in the universe is our hero going to triumph now? If you don’t know what I’m talking about you owe it to yourself to check out this series. If you do, you’re on the edge of your seat just like me with anticipation.

Smallville Season 11: Continuity #4
Smallville Season 11 Continuity #4 (of 4)
Creative Team

Bryan Q. Miller and Ig Guara
Solicitation
“Superman has defeated the Monitors, but what can he possibly do to keep the Universe safe from them in the future? The people of Earth pick up their lives as best they can, and our heroes make some hard decisions about their own futures. As Season Eleven ends, new lives begin.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
After almost three years, Smallville Season 11 has reached its conclusion. Over the course of the ongoing and the mini-series, not to mention the various one-shots, Bryan Q. Miller has given us virtually everything we ever wanted to see on the show but never happened. Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and more! Unlike Buffy from Dark Horse, there are no more plans for future seasons so this is our last trip into this world. I expect Bryan to hold nothing back and leave us with one hell of a finale. Farewell Smallville!

Thor #6
Thor #6
Creative Team

Jason Aaron and Jorge Molina
Solicitation
“WHO IS THOR? That’s the question on everyone’s lips. Most especially Prince Odinson of Asgard. This issue, he starts to narrow down the list of suspects. Meanwhile, tensions continue to flare between the All-Mother and All-Father, Malekith forges his most dangerous pact yet, and Thor prepares to face her greatest challenge! ”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The mystery deepens as both the Odinson and us try to piece together the identity of this new Thor. Each issue has been fantastic so I’m expecting more of the same with this one. Plus who doesn’t love family drama, dangerous pacts, and the tease of Thor’s greatest challenge yet?

Reid Vanier’s Top Pick
Action Comics #40
Action Comics #40
Creative Team
Greg Pak; Art by Aaron Kuder.
Solicitation
“Bizarro make Superman sane! Happy to see each other! No fighting ever!”
Why He Is Looking Forward To It
Greg Pak’s run on Action Comics has been something. The “Horrorville” arc – which just concluded last month – thrust Superman into an entirely new genre and pitted him against the monstrous New 52 Ultra-Humanite. The run was a wild success, in my opinion, but that doesn’t mean I want Superman to be a horror-genre character forever. Cue Bizarro. Bizarro issues, traditionally, have been a ton of fun. They, admittedly, stick to a pretty simple formula, but watching both Superman and Bizarro struggle to communicate with each other is always entertaining. In Forever Evil, we got a slightly different take on Bizarro; a sweet, compassionate relationship between him and his creator, Lex Luthor. That Bizarro was killed by Mazahs (Earth 3’s Alexander Luthor) and though Luthor is growing another broken clone of the Man of Steel, he shouldn’t be ready to birth yet. This is why I’m excited. Given the upcoming Bizarro mini-series starting in June, could it be that this is our first encounter with a resident of Earth 29, aka Htrae, the Bizarro Earth?

    • “Any week with Captain AND Ms. Marvel is a good week.”
And I would most definitely add Silver Surfer into the mix as well. I’m really enjoying that series. 🙂

  1. Heavy week for me. Justice League United 10, Vampirella 10, All New X-Men 37, Amazing Spider-Man 16, Ant Man 3, Captain Marvel 13, Ms. Marvel 13, Spider-Gwen 2, Thor 6 and Wolverines 10.
