On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 03/18/15

Radar Each week, countless titles see release from all the various comic companies out there. Some will be good, some will be bad, and some will be downright excellent. Of course, we don’t know which will be which but what we do know is which are our most anticipated. With that said, it is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Batgirl #40
Batgirl #40
Creative Team
Cameron Stewart and Babs Tarr
Solicitation
“A decision Barbara made during her darkest days in Gotham City returns to haunt her! What was it? And how does it tie into the evil impostor Batgirl? Find out here!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Who is the real Batgirl? What is the truth behind this imposter? How will Barbara weather this storm against someone who knows her just as well as she does? Questions, questions, questions and the only way to find the answers is to wait for this issue’s release!

Green Lantern: New Guardians #40
Green Lantern New Guardians #40
Creative Team

Justin Jordan and Diogenes Neves
Solicitation

“Once and for all, Kyle will come to terms with his destiny as the White Lantern, filler of the Reservoir behind the Source Wall that keeps our universe from destructing. But how can he ever accept the fact that this role will soon kill him? The fate of the White Lantern will be revealed in this extra-sized final issue!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
DC have gone out of their way with this solicitation and one in June to say that Kyle will be meeting his demise with this issue. I personally think it is all one big swerve…at least I really hope so. Kyle was my first Green Lantern, my entrance into the title’s universe, a fact that I am not alone in feeling. It is with bated breath that I await this final issue of the series…

Loki: Agent of Asgard #12
Loki Agent Of Asgard #12
Creative Team

Al Ewing and Lee Garbett
Solicitation
“He’s Loki’s older, nastier, vastly more powerful future self. His machinations have cost Loki everything . . . but who IS King Loki? What kingdom would have him? What dread Asgard is he the Agent of? And what evil scheme has he been brewing all this time? This issue — King Loki tells all!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The last few issues of this series have been nothing short of awesome. Seeing Loki reveal the truth about what he did to his younger self and how everyone reacted to said truth made for some real compelling reading and this issue looks to top even that. King Loki promises to reveal all!

Superman #39
Superman #39
Creative Team

Geoff Johns and John Romita
Solicitation
“This emotional story reveals a rarely seen side of The Man of Steel as an ordinary person, as the super-star team of Geoff Johns, John Romita, Jr. and Klaus Janson continue their epic run on the series!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
What drew me initially was the awesome cover. Jimmy Olsen standing in front of a gun to protect Superman? Sayeth what? Then the mention that we are going to get an emotional tale instead of a knock-out slugfest is both a welcome and highly interesting prospect indeed.

Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #3
Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #3
Creative Team

Ryan North and Erica Henderson
Solicitation
“Time is running out, and the only way for Squirrel Girl to stop Galactus is to get to the moon . . . you know, somehow?? See the unveiling of Squirrel Girl’s new Flying Squirrel Suit . . . that she maaaaybe borrowed from Iron Man. Also, the final face-off with Galactus! ON THE MOON.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Squirrel Girl VS Galactus…on the moon! Need I really say more?

Reid Vanier’s Top Pick

New 52: Futures End #46
Creative Team
Various
Solicitation
“‘How would you feel, McG, if the future you came here to prevent doesn’t exist?’ A reluctant hero rises as we realize the world still needs saving.”
Why He Is Looking Forward To It
New 52: Futures End has spent a great deal of its run meandering through disparate stories, only tangentially connecting the Earth 2 War, Cadmus, Mister Terrific, Stormwatch, Brainiac, Frankenstein, absent Superman, and a number of other story lines. But with the defeat of Brainiac, all threads tie together as the series’ original pitch finally comes to pass – Brother Eye is alive, active, and beyond the control of his creators. For the past five to ten issues, this series has found its stride, slowly piecing the various storylines together and building some consistent momentum. With only a few issues remaining, Futures End is now speeding towards Convergence and Batman Beyond is finally returned to the spotlight in a relevant way. From the start, his mission was complicated by arriving five years too late to complete his mission as planned, so now with Brother Eye online and in control, how can Terry stop the apocalypse he was sent to stop?

  1. I’ll have to check again to make sure I have these releases right, but I have a decently sized week coming up. My most anticipated titles are Batgirl 40, Wolverines 11 (it’s a X-23 focused issue) and both of the Black Vortex issues (All New X-Men 39 and Guardians Team-Up 3). I’m also picking up Supergirl 40, Witchblade 181, Black Widow 16, Cyclops 11, Magneto 16 and maybe Amazing Spider-Man 16.1 and Batgirl: Endgame.

Two issues of Batgirl in a week feels kind of awesome, and I like that it’s an extra issue to tie into Endgame instead of what they’ve done before, interrupting the main storyline with a Batman tie-in. I just haven’t fully decided whether I’m picking it up or not yet.

    • I for one love the idea of not interrupting the series for these tie-ins as well. Sure it may increase my budget with an extra comic but it allows the creators on the main title to not feel forced into conforming and ruining their story’s momentum. Thanks for sharing your line-up and I wish you an excellent New Comic Book Day. 🙂
