On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 03/25/15

Radar Each week, countless titles see release from all the various comic companies out there. Some will be good, some will be bad, and some will be downright excellent. Of course, we don’t know which will be which but what we do know is which are our most anticipated. With that said, it is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

“Damian’s powers have been a source of concern to Batman – and it’s only a matter of time before he’s called up to the big leagues!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Damian is upping his game to a whole new level as he teams not only with Batman but the entire Justice League. Seeing our newly powered sidekick interact with the League should offer some really awesome moments as he tries to prove that he is truly in their league.

“This month in BATMAN ETERNAL: The epic Bat-story over a year in the making comes to a stunning end! Gotham City is in flames! Villains are running wild in the streets! Bat-tech has been corrupted! And the mastermind behind it all has put a knife in Batman’s ribs! How will the Dark Knight put an end to this nightmare…and how will it shape the face of Gotham City to come?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
After Issue #50’s shocking revelation we have arrived at the penultimate issue of this series. Have we truly learned the identity of the mastermind? Was it yet another swerve? We will know the truth without a shadow of a doubt right here!

“SERIES FINALE! Bullseye. Elektra. Final round. You ready?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Sadly this is the final chapter of this series. Del Mundo definitely blew us away each and every issue, his visuals being a real feast for the eyes. Hopefully his next project sees a larger audience as a month without Mundo is a real bleak thought.

“Holy cow, it’s Taco Tuesday! Oh…and Olive battles Batman!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The confrontation that has been building since the first issue is here. No it is not Batman VS Joker or Batman VS Penguin. It is the very mysterious Olive Silverlock VS the Dark Knight. How will it all play out? I eagerly await that and more!

Red Lanterns #40

“In this final RED LANTERNS issue, Guy Gardner begins to understand what being the Red Lantern of Earth really means. Will he succumb to rage once and for all, or can the former hero still find another path?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Farewell Red Lanterns. Guy’s starring vehicle comes to a close and I expect an emotionally satisfying end to the title. Where we will find him next is anyone’s guess but I really have to applaud Charles Soule for making me actually care for a character I never really liked before. If I take nothing else from this series, at least there will be that fact.

Reid Vanier’s Top Pick
Gotham By Midnight #5
Gotham By Midnight #5
Creative Team
Ray Fawkes and Ben Templesmith
Solicitation
“Jim Corrigan can’t keep The Spectre at bay any longer! Now he’s arrived to judge Gotham City for its many sins. Does anyone, even the Midnight Shift, stand a chance against Heaven’s blade?”
Why He Is Looking Forward To It
Nearly four full years into the New 52, the Spectre has yet to receive a proper spotlight. His origin was re-imagined in the pages of Trinity of Sin: Phantom Stranger, and he appeared briefly during both Forever Evil: Blight and Batman Eternal, and even within the pages of Gotham by Midnight, we’ve only really seen Jim Corrigan at work. That is, until the end of last month’s issue. Now, finally, the Spectre is released on the Earth in all of his terrifyingly powerful glory – all part of the plan of the malevolent spirits the Midnight Shift has been pursuing since the first issue. To me, this issue is the real test for this series. Can Ray Fawkes end his first arc with an appropriate bang? Can Ben Templesmith’s wonderful scratchy, horror-genre art style accommodate the sheer scale and power of the Spectre? And, perhaps most importantly, can Gotham City survive an encounter with the Spirit of Vengeance?

  1. I’ll have to check again to be sure my pull list lines up with next week’s releases (sometimes the site I use to check weekly releases isn’t fixed until the Monday before). I plan to pick up Batman 40, Gotham Academy 6, Red Sonja 15, Death Vigil 7, Amazing X-Men 18, Guardians of the Galaxy 25, Legendary Star Lord 10, Uncanny X-Men 32 and Wolverines 12.
I’m most looking forward to Batman 40, the Black Vortex tie-ins and Red Sonja.

  2. Really looking forward to the penultimate issue of Batman Eternal, sure it will have a few more shocks an surprises in store. Also can’t wait for Daredevil #14 as well, really enjoying this DD series so much.
