On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 04/01/15

Radar Each week, countless titles see release from all the various comic companies out there. Some will be good, some will be bad, and some will be downright excellent. Of course, we don’t know which will be which but what we do know is which are our most anticipated. With that said, it is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Batman and Robin Annual #3

“After a year that included death, resurrection and battles with the forces of Apokolips, it’s time for Batman and Robin to get back to basics both as father and son and partners in crimefighting. But have the events of the past year left too great a rift for them to bounce back from?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Tomasi has taken us on a wonderful rollercoaster ride on this title from showcasing the relationship between father and son to dealing with Damian’s death to his eventual resurrection. I expect this final issue of Tomasi’s run to be the perfect capper to a run that I hold in high regard.

“This month in BATMAN ETERNAL: The epic Bat-story over a year in the making comes to a stunning end! Gotham City is in flames! Villains are running wild in the streets! Bat-tech has been corrupted! And the mastermind behind it all has put a knife in Batman’s ribs! How will the Dark Knight put an end to this nightmare…and how will it shape the face of Gotham City to come?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The end is here, the villain stands revealed. After an entire year’s worth of issues, I eagerly wait to see how it is all going to end. This series was DC’s strongest weekly title since 52, a fact that leaves me rather happy that I took the plunge.

Convergence #0
Convergence #0
Creative Team

Dan Jurgens and Ethan Van Sciver
Solicitation
“Where do worlds go when they die? The Earthquakes felt round the Multiverse, Superman’s lost days after ‘Doomed,’ the World’s End – all these points will converge as the history of the DCU is spun from a new perspective, the perspective of a mad god and his arrogant child. The biggest story in DC history ties into literally every DC story ever told – and it all begins here. Kingdom Come, Red Son, Wild West Justice League, Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew – all the worlds you remember can still be found on Telos. Everything matters. Every story matters. Don’t miss the start of DC’s April/May 2015 event with this special issue!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
For the next two months, the DC Universe will bow to Convergence. Seeing the old characters once again alongside all the alternate realities has me positively giddy and this first issue sets the tone for the entire event, an event I’ve been counting down the days to. In the battle between Secret Wars and Convergence, I have to give the edge to this one and I hope this debut issue confirms my choice was correct.

Guardians Team-Up #4

Creative Team

Sam Humphries and Mike Mayhew
Solicitation
“She tough, she’s green, she’s in New York – and I want her DEAD!’ That’s what the intergalactic bounty hunters were told when they took the assignment. Only it turns out there’s TWO people in New York who fit that exact description. Wanna find out what happens when you get BOTH of them mad? Well, then read Guardians of the Galaxy Team-up #4!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Gamora and She-Hulk teaming up? That right there is worth the price of admission!

Harley Quinn #16

Creative Team

Amanda Conner and Chad Hardin
Solicitation
“Not a dream! Not a hoax! Not a…whattaya call it? An imaginary story! This is where everything changes for Harley Quinn for more than forever! Introducing…The Gang of Harleys!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Harley’s got some company. Will her new group help or hinder her? Can they get along? The next phase (however long it lasts) starts here. I’m pretty confident, regardless of the answers, that hilarity will most definitely ensue.

Reid Vanier’s Top Pick

Batman Eternal #52

Why He Is Looking Forward To It
All three weeklies end on April 1, but with Futures End and World’s End tying directly into Convergence, in a way they don’t feel like they are ending. By contrast, Batman Eternal‘s epic year-long arc comes to a definitive end and we don’t get to see the full repercussions until the main publishing line resumes in June. Batman Eternal has shattered my expectations for what a weekly series can be. The scale of the action, the depth of the mystery, and the stakes of the book’s central conceit: is Batman eternal? Is he actually more than a man? The examination and inversion of this theme has made Eternal one of the definitive Batman stories, and in the wake of the shocking revelations of the last few issues, this final installment has the tall task of setting up the new world order of the Batman mythos.

  1. Looking forward to Batman Eternal #52 as well. Its been DC’s best weekly title, and I’m also glad I decided to follow every issue. Its been great and can’t wait to see how this year long bat epic concludes.

I’m not usually a fan of big event stories like Secret Wars and Convergence, however there are elements from both that are quite interesting, so I will probably pick up the odd issue to see what’s happening. I think Convergence will probably have the edge as well.

    • Secret Wars seems to reveal a new title every other day that it is becoming huge! Convergence definitely laid out their cards on the table and I am beyond excited to visit those pre-New 52 characters once again. Have an awesome New Comic Book Day!

      • I agree, Convergence has some great titles, really looking forward to seeing the pre New 52 characters again. Cheers and enjoy your new comic book day as well!

  2. Of course you picked Batman Eternal 52 as your most anticipated. At some point this summer I have to pick the series up in trade and read it through.

I’m picking up IXth Generation 3, Amazing Spider-Man 17, Cyclops 12, Rocket Raccoon 10, Spider-Gwen 3 and Wolverines 13. My most anticipated out of them is between IXth Generation (fantastic science fiction series), Rocket Raccoon(always entertaining) and Wolverines (Because Deadpool is finally showing up … dressed as Wolverine). Might also pick up Gotham Academy: Endgame (make that probably).
