On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 04/15/15

Radar Each week, countless titles see release from all the various comic companies out there. Some will be good, some will be bad, and some will be downright excellent. Of course, we don’t know which will be which but what we do know is which are our most anticipated. With that said, it is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Larry Hama and Philip Tan
Solicitation
“STARRING HEROES FROM ZERO HOUR! Fresh out of recovery from a broken back, Bruce Wayne infiltrates the organized crime underworld, but the outlaw sent to test his mettle is none other than Azrael!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
You had me at the mere mention of Azrael. Will it be the battle of the Batmen once again? One can hope.

Convergence: Green Arrow #1

Christy Marx and Rags Morales
Solicitation

“STARRING HEROES FROM ZERO HOUR! Don’t miss the first meeting between Oliver Queen and his son, Connor Hawke! Father and son may be united, but is their world about to end?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Connor Hawke! Oliver and Connor teaming up once again! Convergence is one big nostalgia trip and I’m thankful to be reading these lost characters once again, albeit it ever so briefly.

“New story arc! Forever at odds with the Harlot, Lucifer has always resisted being her heir. Now everything is changing, and Lucifer’s fate can only be altered by the most unlikely team-Raina and Bob.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The previous issue was crazy amazing and that ending was jaw dropping. That made the wait for this issue all the more agonizing and all the more anticipated. This series as a whole is one of my Top Independent titles that I’m reading today and more people really need to check it out. Fantastic art and an amazing story are what await!

Lumberjanes #13
Lumberjanes #13

Shannon Watters and Brooke A. Allen
Solicitation
“Ever wonder how the Lumberjanes first met? Take a trip back to the first day at camp and see how their friendship to the max got started.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
For the previous 12 issues we’ve fallen in love with these characters and now the time has come for a flashback to see how it all started. What were the girls like before they met one another? How did they all meet? Were they friends instantly? Did their friendship slowly build? Just like all the issues prior, this one should be uncontrollably awesome!

Ms. Marvel #14
Ms Marvel #14
Creative Team

C. Willow Wilson and Takeshi Miyazawa
Solicitation
“There’s a new kid in town . . . and he’s cute. What are those feelings, Kamala Khan? It’s called a crush.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Okay, am I not the only one that doesn’t trust Kamala’s crush? Show of hands anyone? It is because I am so invested in the character that I don’t want to see her get hurt which is a testament to Wilson’s abilities as a writer. I have a really good feeling that this issue is going to be the perfect mixture of action and drama, mixing super heroics and real-life like no other series can.

Reid Vanier’s Top Pick
Convergence Green Lantern Parallax #1
Convergence: Green Lantern/Parallax #1
Creative Team
Tony Bedard, Bill Reinhold, and Ron Wagner.
Solicitation
“STARRING HEROES FROM ZERO HOUR! A powerless Kyle Rayner visits a Metropolis prison to see a devastated Hal Jordan who believes he has murdered the Green Lantern Corps. But if the dome falls and powers are restored, will Parallax return to defend the city or destroy it?
Why He Is Looking Forward To It
In my opinion, Hal Jordan will always be the greatest of the Green Lanterns. And though I actually enjoyed “Emerald Twilight” when I got around to reading it, it was heartbreaking to know that the hero from the pages of my father’s comic books had fallen so far, turned on the Corps, and effectively wiped out the universe. What I am hoping for out of this particular two-shot is a chance at redemption for Hal that doesn’t involve death, afterlife, and resurrection. Based on what we have learned about the domes thus far in Convergence, they cut off our heroes and villains from their powers. With that in mind, one can only assume that the dome has freed Zero Hour Hal Jordan from the influence of Parallax, the Fear Entity. Will this time spent wallowing in remorse and guilt be enough to hold the viciousness of Parallax at bay once the dome opens? For the sake of all of the trapped citizens of Metropolis, I certainly hope it is.

  1. It’s looking like a Marvel only week for me, unless I decide to pick up a few randoms on the side. Legendary Star-Lord 11, Magneto 17, Ms. Marvel 14, Thor 7, Uncanny X-Men 33 and Wolverines 14. Most looking forward to Uncanny X-Men for the Kitty/Magik team-up, with Ms. Marvel a close second.
