On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 05/27/15

Radar Each week, countless titles see release from all the various comic companies out there. Some will be good, some will be bad, and some will be downright excellent. Of course, we don’t know which will be which but what we do know is which are our most anticipated. With that said, it is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Jeff Lemire and Ramon K. Perez
Solicitation
“What makes a hero and what breaks a hero? Hawkeye and Hawkeye experience both. In ONE GLORIOUSLY BEAUTIFUL ISSUE! Jeff Lemire and Ramon Perez bring you the hotly anticipated series of the season.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The first two issues have been both well written and gorgeous in terms of art. I’m fairly confident that the third issue will be more of the same aforementioned awesomeness.

Convergence #8

Creative Team

Scott Lobdell, Jeff King, Stephen Segovia, and Carlo Pagulayan
Solicitation

“All the heroes of the DC Universe unite to face a crisis of infinite proportions – but when the battle is done, there can be only one reality. But will even that survive the battle?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Those last two months sure flew by. Now the time has come to bid adieu to the Convergence event as we all await with bated breath to see how the event will end. Will only one reality survive or will multiple ones either merge or be reintegrated back to their home realities? I eagerly await the answer!

Iron Fist: The Living Weapon #12
Iron Fist Living Weapon #12
Creative Team

Kaare Andrews
Solicitation
“THE INCREDIBLE GRAND FINALE TO KAARE ANDREWS’ KUNG FU EPIC! All of Danny Rand’s past and present have led to this: the world-shattering battle for the future! Danny Rand VS The One…with two worlds hanging in the balance! No redemption comes without sacrifice. What will become of the Iron Fist?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Kaare Andrews’ epic Iron Fist run has reached the final issue. Years later I will look back on this run fondly and I am super excited to see what Kaare does next.

Old Man Logan #1
Old Man Logan #1
Creative Team

Brian Michael Bendis and Andrea Sorrentino
Solicitation
“Enter the Wastelands…a realm where all heroes have been murdered by their arch-enemies, villains who now rule over the land with an iron fist. In the midst of this dystopian chaos, one man may make a difference…a reluctant warrior who was once the greatest mutant of all…a man known as OLD MAN LOGAN. ”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
NEW SERIES ALERT! I loved the original Old Man Logan series and a big part was owed to the combination of the original creative team. With Bendis and Sorrentino at the helm, we know this world is in mighty good hands indeed.

Sandman: Overture #5
Sandman Overture #5 (of 6) (Cover A)
Creative Team

Neil Gaiman and J. H. Williams
Solicitation
“The fate of the entire universe hangs in the balance when Dream finally gets his mother’s full attention. Magic, joy, war and heartbreak are brought to life on the pages with epic luminosity in the penultimate issue of THE SANDMAN: OVERTURE.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
It has been just over 5 months since the last issue came out. 5 months! If my anticipation levels weren’t already at maximum for this series they are experiencing total overload by now.

Reid Vanier’s Top Pick

Convergence #8

Creative Team
Written by Scott Lobdell and Jeff King; Art by Stephen Segovia and Carlo Pagulayan.
Solicitation
“All the heroes of the DC Universe unite to face a crisis of infinite proportions – but when the battle is done, there can be only one reality. But will even that survive the battle?
Why He Is Looking Forward To It
When Convergence was first announced, I admit that I was among the cynical. The two month event made no secret about being the stop-gap in the publishing line while DC Comics moved from its New York office to one in Burbank, but even at that, the very premise felt, to me, like the worst sort of fan-pandering. Remember all these fun things that don’t exist anymore? Well maybe they do! And while there has been a certain degree of that kind of nostalgia-peddling, Convergence has turned out to be a rather interesting event. The main title has been especially strong, and despite the relative inconsequence of the tie-ins, the event may actually have some weight in the course of the DCU. It’s all been building to this final issue, and I am quite happy to have some egg on my face as I look forward to what I expect to be a dynamic finish.

  1. Only Secret Wars 2099 and Ultron Forever. A very light week for me. I’m tempted to get Old Man Logan, because Sorrentino’s an amazing artist, but nope, I don’t like Wolverine, even the Old Man version of him.

  2. I never actually read the original Old Man Logan story, which is part of why I’m looking forward to this new series. I’m also picking up Red Sonja 16, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 46, Black Widow 18, Inferno 1, MODOK Assassin 1 and Hawkeye 3. I’m most looking forward to Red Sonja 16 and MODOK – Red Sonja because it’s been awesome so far, and MODOK because it looks delightfully stupid.
