On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 06/10/15

Radar Each week, countless titles see release from all the various comic companies out there. Some will be good, some will be bad, and some will be downright excellent. Of course, we don’t know which will be which but what we do know is which are our most anticipated. With that said, it is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

“The all-new Batman makes his debut! Who is he, and what happens next? Find out here as a new era begins in Gotham City!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
This is it, the first issue of the all-new Batman. I’m quite intrigued to see how Gordon adjusts to the role and am excited to see what Snyder and Capullo do next. Everything is going to be fresh and with DC giving the reigns to the creative team they could really create something special.

Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Damian at Gotham Academy? Ever since the cover to this issue was revealed I’ve been eagerly counting down the days until the issue saw release. I mean the possibilities are amazing. Seriously, look at that cover and I dare you not to try to picture what is about to unfold within the pages of this very issue. It’s going to be nothing short of awesome!

“From the writers of the outrageous smash hit HARLEY QUINN comes former Outlaw Starfire in her all-new ongoing series! She’s an alien warrior princess trying to find peace on Earth, and she’ll fight anyone and anything to get it!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
NEW SERIES ALERT! I had a tough time deciding which of the new batch of DC titles was the one I was most looking forward to. In the end I had to go with this one as it looks to have all the ingredients for both a fun and action filled romp with a character I enjoy. Harley Quinn 2.0 anyone?

Reid Vanier’s Top Pick
Earth 2 Society #1
Earth 2: Society #1

Creative Team
Written by Daniel H. Wilson; Art by Jorge Jimenez.
Solicitation
“The survivors of Earth 2’s war with Apokolips find themselves on a new world, but can Green Lantern, Power Girl, a new Batman, and the other heroes of Earth 2 create a new world that’s better than the last, or will their interference and good intentions doom this world, just like the old one?
Why He Is Looking Forward To It
When it first debuted, Earth 2 was one of the best titles of the New 52. It was a fresh, exciting, and dynamic take on the world of the Golden Age heroes, and the first several arcs were both strongly written and beautifully drawn. Even when Tom Taylor took over and things got dark with the return of a Darkseid-brainwashed Superman, Earth 2 was still absolutely engaging. But the entirety of the World’s End weekly and its tie-ins in the main title were a sore disappointment, needlessly dragging Earth 2 further into hell, ravaging an already war-ravaged world. But the one beautiful thing that Convergence gave to the survivors of Earth 2 was hope. They have a new planet to call home, and the heroes have a chance to set right the innumerable wrongs done to their world. And though the solicit and the sneak peek both hint at more doom and gloom, I am hopeful that the overall tone of this book will be more hopeful than what the previous title became. All stories need threats, so I won’t yet begrudge Daniel H. Wilson for building the potential danger of this book, but after all they’ve been through, what I really want for the heroes of Earth 2 is some of that Golden Age optimism.

  1. I picked up 1602 Witch Hunter Angela, Captain America & the Mighty Avengers, Captain Marvel & the Carol Corps, Ghost Racers, Secret Wars 2099, Silk, Silver Surfer and My Little Pony. A really heavy week. But lots of fun stuff.
