On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 02/04/15

Radar Each week, countless titles see release from all the various comic companies out there. Some will be good, some will be bad, and some will be downright excellent. Of course, we don’t know which will be which but what we do know is which are our most anticipated. With that said, it is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Ant-Man #2

Nick Spencer and Ramon Rosanas
Solicitation
“Ant-Man’s starting a new life–a bold new adventure–and you know what that means . . . He needs to borrow some money! Also, an old enemy returns . . . kinda. Sorta. Maybe?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The first issue impressed me. I really shouldn’t have been surprised since I’m a fan of Scott Lang but it was an overall enjoyable affair that succeed in getting us to know more about what is going on in his life and set up his new status quo. The follow-up should be more of the same fantastic narrative and terrific art.

Matt Fraction and David Aja
Solicitation

“The Finale, Part 1: • David. Clint. Barney. The Building. The Tracksuit Draculas. The Clown. • Ever seen ‘Rio Bravo?’ Check it out, it’s pretty good.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder. Well, the last issue came out September. I repeat: September! After almost five months the time has arrived for the endgame to start. Yes, the continual delays have hurt it but I can forgive all of that due to one fact: this issue is bound to be simply awesome!

Ms. Marvel #11
Ms Marvel #11
Creative Team

C. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphona
Solicitation
“The darling of the Marvel Universe gets ready for the ultimate showdown! On patrol full-time, Ms. Marvel needs to find The Inventor before he does Jersey City some real damage! But how much longer can Ms. Marvel’s life take over Kamala Khan’s?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
This series is amazing. That is not in question. The hint that we will be delving more into Kamala Khan’s personal life with hopefully some more interactions with her supporting cast is even better. There’s a good reason that the first issue is on its seventh printing and counting.

Superman #38
Superman #38
Creative Team

Geoff Johns and John Romita
Solicitation
“An extra-sized special issue of the world’s greatest hero brings in the New Year with a new costume, new powers and new friends and enemies!  The epic team of Geoff Johns, John Romita Jr. and Klaus Janson conclude their first arc with twist after twist that will send Superman onto a new path and force Clark Kent to making a shocking decision! Plus: John Romita Jr. draws Batman!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
This issue looks to be a game changer…if the solicitation can be trusted. There are a whole lot of promises regarding new this and new that which means that this extra-sized finale has all the makings to blow us away. I get excited every time I read that solicitation and I cross my fingers that it isn’t just a case of hyperbole.

Why I’m Looking Forward To It

  1. With a relatively heavy January for me, next week is a merciful 6 issues – gives me time to hopefully read more back issues, query literary agents and prepare for my next major edit.
I’m looking forward to Black Vortex: Alpha and Ms. Marvel 7 the most. Also I never really started reading Matt Fraction’s Hawkeye run but I’ve heard so much good about it. I’ve been considering picking up his run in paperback form once it’s done, similar to my plans to pick up Batman Eternal in paperback.

    • Whoops, forgot to mention the rest of my pull list; it’s late here. Anyway, I’m also picking up Vampirella 9, Angela: Asgard’s Assassin 3, Wolverines 5 and Ant Man 2.

    • I highly recommend the purchase of the Hawkeye series. Enjoying the awesomeness in one sitting is much preferable to the giant gaps between issues. Also, thanks for sharing your pull-list. I was apprehensive about taking part in the Black Vortex crossover but have decided to take the plunge.
