On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 04/10/13

Radar

In this feature I’ll highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Avengers Arena #7
Avengers Arena #7
Creative Team
Dennis Hopeless and Alessandro Vitti
Solicitation
“All about Arcade! How did the former punch line become the sadistic scene stealer? Find out in this standalone shocker!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Ever since Arcade made his grand re-debut in the first issue, many fans (myself included) have wondered just how did he get so powerful? This latest chapter promises to reveal the answer to that very question and will be a nice break from the ongoing storyline. The mention of it being a shocker has my mind racing this very instant on what it could possibly be.

Batman #19
Batman #19
Creative Team
Scott Snyder and Andy Kubert
Solicitation
“Who would cause Bruce Wayne to use a gun?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The man who has sworn off guns using one? What could possibly drive Batman to use a gun? Who is he drawing it on? Is it all a swerve? Is this really going to happen? Questions, questions, questions!

Hawkeye #9
Hawkeye #9
Creative Team
Matt Fraction and David Aja
Solicitation

“More ladies, more problems. Featuring: The Girlfriend, the Work-Wife and the Ex-Wife. Plus the tracksuits are back and aim to kill. Good luck, Hawkeye.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The wait between issues is usually agonizing but especially this time as the previous one came out at the end of February. No Hawkeye in March left me quite sad indeed. Regardless, this issue looks to be another mind-blowing outing from Fraction and Aja while spotlighting the various women that makeup Clint’s hectic life.

Uncanny Avengers #6
Uncanny Avengers #6
Creative Team
Rick Remender and Daniel Acuña
Solicitation
“The Apocalypse Twins part 1. New regular artist Daniel Acuña joins just in time for Thor vs Apocalypse in the 11th Century! Wait until you see these two titans first meeting and first battle! The Avengers’ ancestors are being hunted and only a young Thor can save his future companions! And with Rama Tut and Kang pulling the strings, you know nothing good can come from any of it. The future begins in the past! This is it! The future of the all-new, all-different Uncanny Avengers begins here and the effects will reverberate across the Marvel Universe for years to come!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Just read that solicitation. I think it speaks volumes of why I’m looking forward to this. Last issue this series turned things around and this one looks like it is going to continue that upward trend.

Uncanny X-Men #4
Uncanny X-Men #4
Creative Team

Brian Michael Bendis and Chris Bachalo
Solicitation
“How is Magik the only one of the Phoenix Five to come out of the experience unscathed? And there is something strange going on with one of the other members of the UNCANNY X-MEN.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Snappy dialogue. Fantastic art. An entertaining storyline. Bendis and Bachalo unleash the latest installment in a series that has yet to fail to impress. More awesomeness to follow!

  1. I’d say I’m most looking forward to ROCKETEER, ARCHER & ARMSTRONG, INVINCIBLE UNIVERSE and STAR WARS! As always, I’m pretty well frothing the mouth for every Marvel release, but specifically THE FEARLESS DEFENDERS (I still don’t like that title, though! Why not THE DEFENDERS?) and UNCANNY AVENGERS. I get my DC fix through a friend, so I’m looking forward to catch up on Tomasi/Gleasons BATMAN AND ROBIN series soon! Boy, I love that comic.

    • Why not DEFENDERS? Probably because he wrote Valkyrie in the series “Fear Itself: The Fearless” and Marvel wanted to bring in the readers from that title over here. Just my guess…
