On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 10/01/14

Radar

It is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

Alex + Ada #9
Alex + Ada #9
Creative Team
Jonathan Luna
Solicitation
“Ada explores life without Alex and discovers just how dangerous it is to be a sentient android out in the world. ”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Let’s see…what is the worst thing a sentient android with a will of her own could do? Well go out alone in a world that fears her kind’s independence and wants to see her destroyed. Oh Ada, I fear for your safety which only shows what a great job Luna has done in making me care for her.

Black Widow #11
Black Widow #11
Creative Team

Nathan Edmondson and Phil Noto
Solicitation

“In the wake of Wolverine’s death, with Issac’s life on the line, Black Widow takes X-23 punching!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
It is a Black Widow/X-23 team-up! This issue is the aftermath of the Death of Wolverine with said death slipping on the schedule and not even occurring yet. Despite that fact, this whole affair should produce some highly entertaining and memorable moments indeed.

Detective Comics #35
Detective Comics #35
Creative Team

Ben Percy and John Paul Leon
Solicitation
“In the first chapter of a two-part tale by the guest team of writer Ben Percy and artist John Paul Leon, a civilian appearance at Gotham Airport turns into a horror show for Batman when a plane full of dead passengers arrives on the runway! What happened – and what can Bruce Wayne do about it?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Holy engaging mystery, Batman! While it definitely won’t be as pretty a book with this fill-in team, the story has the potential to surpass the previous arc from them. I’m intrigued about this plane of the dead and the mention that Bruce Wayne (not Batman) is the key to solving it really grabs me.

Gotham Academy #1
Gotham Academy #1
Creative Team

Becky Cloonan and Karl Kerschl
Solicitation
“WELCOME TO GOTHAM ACADEMY! Gotham City’s most prestigious prep school is a very weird place. It’s got a spooky campus, oddball teachers, and rich benefactors always dropping by…like that weirdo Bruce Wayne. But nothing is as strange is the students! Like, what’s up with Olive Silverlock? Is she crazy or what? Where did she go last summer? And what’s the deal with her creepy mom? And how come that Freshman MAPS is always following her around? And is she still going out with Kyle? P.S. Did you hear the rumor about the ghost in the North Hall?! GOTHAM ACADEMY is a new, monthly teen drama set in the shadow of Batman and the craziness of Gotham City, with new characters and old plus a secret tie to Gotham’s past…”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
From the very moment this series was announced I was excited and my excitement has only grow week after week as we got closer and closer to its release. Well that time has finally arrived and I am so ready for a slice-of-life teen drama draped in the Batman world. It is fresh and familiar at the same time!

Green Arrow #35
Green Arrow #35
Creative Team

Andrew Kreisberg and Daniel Sampere
Solicitation
“Welcome new series writers straight from the hit TV show Arrow! Ollie is trying to put his life together after the grueling events of ‘Broken,’ and finds himself back in Seattle on a mission from a mystery woman. Who is she – and what’s next for Green Arrow?”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
The major reason this made my Top 5 is due to my uncertainty about the direction this title is headed. Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino are gone and their replacements have arrived. They are going to be hard-pressed to live up to the previous team’s greatness so this opening salvo will tell us if the future is bright or if it will return to the doldrums of the title before Lemire and Sorrentino arrived to save it. Hopefully it is the former and not the latter…

  1. My most anticipated is Black Widow 11. Black Widow and X-23, when written properly, have a very similar skill set that makes them ripe for a great team up, and so far Black Widow has been a consistently good series. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 38 and Death of Wolverine 3 not too far behind on the list of comics I’m most looking forward to.

    I’m also picking up Blood Queen 5, Vampirella 5, Witchblade 178, Legendary Star Lord 4, Thor 1 and Spider-Man 2099 4.

It’s probably smart of Marvel to split up Legendary Star Lord and Rocket Raccoon so they don’t release on the same week every month like they did with the first three. You know, spread out the Guardians comics a bit.

    • Thanks for sharing your pull-list and thoughts. I agree that splitting up the Guardians titles was wise. That way we can spread the Guardians awesomeness throughout the entire month instead of short bursts. I’m not going to be picking up the new Guardians 3000 series but with proper planning we could potentially see Marvel release one title every week of the month. Who would have thought the franchise would have exploded like that?
