The Multiversity: The Just #1

Ben Oliver certainly delivered one awesome cover this week to take the third place spot. This cover is a perfect homage to a tabloid cover with a DC twist as we delve into Earth 16 aka Earth-Me. It is an image ripe with the typical gossip and rumors you’d find in one of those publications. First up we have the daughter of Lex Luthor, Alexis, smiling as she proudly holds up a key: “He gave me the key to the Batcave!” A relationship between Alexis and Damian (the Batman on the cover) could provide the reason why the “World’s Finest bromance” is coming to an end complete with a photo being torn in two of Batman and Chris Kent aka Superman. Below them we have Kon-El who is holding his hand up to block a paparazzi shot asking people not to call him Superboy with an enquiry wondering if he “can make it in the art world?” Not afraid of the cameras is Green Arrow Connor Hawke’s daughter Arrowette with the promise of her “sexy photo-shoot for Maximus.” Last but not least is the image of Sasha Norman who is proudly proclaiming that “I’m gonna party Jakeem Thunder right out of my life!” She is the least know character on the character which only makes her that much more mysterious. Overall it is something unlike anything we have seen recently which is fitting as this is an Earth unlike any other. Only from the mind of Morrison. It is because of this newness that we have so many questions about the characters and their relationships. It compels us to open the book up for answers and like I always say…that is what truly makes a great cover.

  1. Bronze medal for Harley Quinn # 11, because of my passion for Power Girl.
Silver medal for Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 10 #8, because I love the pop – art – like colouring.
Gold medal for The Multiversity: The Just # 1, because the idea of laying out the page as if it were a tabloid cover is a stroke of genius that deserves the first prize alone. Not to mention all the question this image raises: who is Sasha Norman? How did Lex Luthor get the keys of the Bat – cave? What happened to the friendship between Batman and Superman?

    • “Bronze medal for Harley Quinn # 11, because of my passion for Power Girl.”
I especially love the disclaimer at the bottom of this cover: “PLEASE NOTE: This comic contains no actual super-heroics. If you are looking for that, may we suggest you pick up the book to the right of this one.” Simply awesome!

      Thanks for sharing your Rankings.

      • “I especially love the disclaimer at the bottom of this cover” Nice catch GothamRogue, that had passed me by! Now I’m even more convinced this cover deserves the bronze medal.
“Thanks for sharing your Rankings.” Thank you as well for your reply! : )
