On The Radar: Comic Book Coming Attractions 01/21/15

Radar Each week, countless titles see release from all the various comic companies out there. Some will be good, some will be bad, and some will be downright excellent. Of course, we don’t know which will be which but what we do know is which are our most anticipated. With that said, it is time once again to highlight the upcoming comics that I’m looking forward to the most, the ones that are On My Radar:

All-New X-Factor #20
All New X-Factor #20 (Final Issue Variant Cover Edition)
Creative Team
Peter David and Carmine Giandomenico
“At last – the revelation behind the secret of Harrison Snow. Guest starring: Spider-Man 2099.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Noooooo! What type of world do we have to live in where we are deprived of Peter David’s X-Factor? A cold, dark, and depressing one that is. It is with a heavy heart that we bid adieu to the writer’s time on the series but it is with a glimmer of hope that maybe one day this franchise will be resurrected with him at the helm yet again. One can hope, am I right?

Batman and Robin #38
Batman And Robin #38
Creative Team

Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason

“The team of Batman and Robin are together again! But what is the new dynamic for this crimefighting duo now that Damian has super powers of his own?
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Batman and Robin protect the city side-by-side yet again but things are definitely not the same as they used to be. I’m on the edge of my seat as we see how Batman reacts to his son’s new powers and more specifically how Damian will handle them. Move over Batman/Superman, there’s a new World’s Finest here to stay!

Batman Eternal #42
Batman Eternal #42
Creative Team

Scott Snyder and Joe Quinones
“You’ve been waiting for the debut of Bluebird – and here it is, though this story may not have a happy ending!”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Ever since Harper Row debuted in Batman I was a big fan of the character. Then we got that flash-forward where we saw she would assume the mantle of Bluebird. Now the time has come to finally see her don the guise and I couldn’t be more excited…except if they kill her. Yeah, that would make me quite sad indeed. Remember they said this story MAY not have a happy ending, not that it definitely would have one. My fingers are crossed she makes it through alive.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 #11
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Ten #11 (Steve Morris cover)
Creative Team

Christos Gage, Nicholas Brendon, and Megan Levens
“With the magical side of things momentarily under control, Buffy and crew have a chance to deal with their personal lives: things heat up between Xander and Dawn, young Giles is visited by an old flame, Andrew introduces some new friends, and the Slayer is totally set for round one of speed dating! Then the bad guy shows up.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
This is going to be an issue focussed entirely on relationships and I couldn’t be happier. The banter between the characters is always handled magnificently by Mr. Gage and you always need these type of issues to give us a break from the action. Most of the times these type of issues are a real standout and I expect nothing less from this one.

Loki: Agent of Asgard #10
Loki Agent Of Asgard #10
Creative Team

Al Ewing and Lee Garbett
“In the aftermath of AXIS, Loki is the Hero Of Asgard no more. But one change remains: The God of Lies can only ever tell the truth. Now, Loki’s brother, the Odinson, visits his apartment, to talk of cabbages, kings… and Kid Loki. This is it.”
Why I’m Looking Forward To It
Ever since Kid Loki met his end in Journey Into Mystery, this moment has been building up. Now, with no choice but to tell the truth, Loki will have to reveal his darkest secret to Thor and the ramifications could be severe. This issue looks to be the payoff to years of storytelling!

Radar SpinOther Comics I’ll Be Purchasing
All-New X-Men #35

  1. I’m definitely looking forward to Batman Eternal this week, but the big revelation from the end of last month’s Wonder Woman pushed this month’s issue into my Pick of the Week spot.

  2. I hope they don’t kill Harper either. I’ve only seen her in Scott Snyder’s main Batman series, but I always liked her as a character.

Also looking forward to All New X-Factor 20. Sure, the last issue wasn’t all that special, but Peter David has to finish up his storylines somewhere and it’s better to have a mediocre penultimate issue than a bad final issue.

Next week’s another big week for me. For Marvel alone I’m picking up All New X-Men 35, Amazing Spider-Man 13, Black Widow 14, Guardians of the Galaxy 23, Legendary Star Lord 8, Magneto 14, Rocket Raccoon 7, Scarlet Spiders 3 and Wolverines 3. I’m also picking up Supergirl 38, Red Sonja 14 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 42. Reading that many in one sitting and then writing my first impressions post right after can be mentally exhausting..

    • It speaks to Snyder’s talents that we care enough for Harper at this early venture. It would be a real crime to kill her so early on in the character’s life span when there are so many more stories to be explored.

Thanks for sharing your pull-list and I wish you a great New Comic Book Day!

  3. All-New X-Factor, All-New X-Men, Mighty Avengers, Loki, Rocket Raccoon, The Wicked + The Divine.

I’m not that disappointed about ANXF ending. This volume hasn’t really been as good as the previous stuff.

    • ANXF started off slow for me but really found its stride after the initial arc. I have to admit that as soon as AXIS hit it the series went on a downward trend. Curse you company mandated tie-ins!
